I'm having another annoying glitch with my Lightning. For some reason the ac system randomly turns off the recirculation mode. Because I have to dig into the huge screen to check the ac recirculation settings, the only way I know when the ac randomly decides to switch to fresh air is when I get the wonderful smell of exhaust filling my cabin. I never use heat (I'm in a year round hot climate) and never touch the ac settings except for the fan speed.

Anyone else experiencing this or is this a one-off glitch?

Lots of cars have timers on the recirculate mode. I’ve been in a lot of rental cars and it’s always part of the adventure to see how recirc will behave brand to brand and model to model.

My wife’s Mach E is the same. Will not stay in recirculate mode for more than 5 minutes.

I have experienced this same issue, recirculation has turned itself off in less than 5 minutes on multiple occasions, very annoying. At other times it stays like for much longer.

"It's a feature, not a bug."

It is intended behavior.

Somewhere I read that Recirc monitors air quality and turns off when it determines high moisture conditions that could fog the windows and require more energy to clear than allowing it to condition outside air. (Or, something like that.)

Edit: It's explained in the on-board manual search : recirculate

Ford engineers must live somewhere where it smells good outside and there are no cars with very bad exhaust. My recirc stays on with my other car unless the windshield is fogging. It took 10 blocks of driving before my wife was digging for the resuric and then again ten minutes later. This is just rude.

If you 1) don’t use the “Auto” setting, and 2) don’t have airflow directed to the windshield, recirc will stay on indefinitely.

Thank you, there's a dairy farm along the route to visit the in-laws and it gets awkward when I mention to the wife that it always stinks when we visit her parents.

I want to replace the cabin air filter with one that is activated carbon to minimize this. Usually, by the time I realize I need to shut off outside air, it’s too late. I got behind some hillbilly last night in a Duramax that had the DEF system removed….gross.

Yeah, that would be great if you could then change the climate in the app but I was told the only way to get remote climate at set temperature was to leave it in auto.

I never use “Auto” and I haven’t noticed any issues when remote starting. I’ll pay closer attention next time. Have you actually tried it? Were you told that by someone at the dealer (salesman)?

I think it was that if you arrived in the morning and had the heat on (and left it that way). Then in the evening it’s hot and you want the ac to turn on when you remote start (but the heat would be on because it was not in auto) you won’t get ac. Therefor you would want to leave it in auto if you want it to change between heat or ac. I have only tried the auto so far for that (truck is 5 days old).

I follow this and mine still turns off randomly all the time. Ridiculous

Is says that but it’s a complete lie. If it was “monitoring” it would’t be timed. If there was a fog condition then me turning it back on recirculate immediatly every time it turns off would mean I should have a fogged cabin, I don’t. If it was to save energy it would not be filling the cabin with 50 degree outside air when I have the temp set to 70, the heat off and “auto” set on 2 bars (it’s actively making the car colder than I want). It’s the most frustrating climate control ever invented. After reading the manual I realized there is no manual mode, only off and three fan speeds of auto. @Ford Motor Company please fix this most annoying “feature”. I have TWO dedicated buttons on the home screen for max defrost. Why? Please change one to recirculate and don’t turn it off without a prompt for me to override.
