When I got in the truck yesterday I was greeted with this CarPlay message for the first time. I’ve been using CarPlay for a year and a half and this was the first I’ve seen this. Wonder why now?

Perhaps someone in an Apple or Carplay centric forum might be able to help, this is not a Ford thing.

I disagree. I believe that this is a disclaimer from Ford. It specifically mentions Ford and the UI is Sync, not Apple's. If so, it may be the result of a recent Sync update or perhaps a timeout on a previous acceptance.

Recent iOS update?
Possibly, I get this on random occasions even with Android Auto, might be related the core AA or CP application changes on your phone.

The warning I got recently was more about the "sharing" of data than enabling AA to work if I recall correctly.

No it's not, it's clearly stating Apple carplay and what it may do with your data.

Agree to disagree. That's a Sync alert. Why would Apple ask one to enable CarPlay when it's already loaded on the screen? It's clearly a disclaimer saying Ford is not responsible for data Apple collects. I'd bet they have the same alert for Android Auto. The question is what triggers it.

Yes Sync is Micro$oft and it's also a well known fact they do not get along with anything Apple. The only reason they added iOS support is they didn't want to exclude anyone. You might be surprised to know the operating system is Linux based not Windows.

The system alerted to an Apple issue, not a Sync issue is what I'm saying.

This is all irrelevant to the thread and partly false. I won't elaborate on it further.

This alert has nothing to do with an issue. It's simply the lawyers at Ford wanting to cover the company w/r/t data privacy. Again, the alert is happening in Sync. There is no method I'm aware of in this iteration of CarPlay for Apple to inject an alert into the truck's provided infotainment system. There's really no other way I can explain this. Maybe somebody else can either do a better job or tell me I'm wrong in a meaningful way.

Edit: After thinking about this a bit more, I can think of two instances in which CarPlay communicates back to Ford's system: maps and music. However, in both situations the information is displayed in the instrument cluster and not in the truck's center screen. Perhaps there are more, but I can't think of anything that displays in the Sync system.

We're definitely going to have to agree to disagree, somehow our conversation is lost in translation. I consider any message on screen an issue, be it a simple click to fix or replacing hardware, doesn't matter, it's still an issue, look up the definition if you don't believe me.

Let me note that pretty much everything in these three sentences is false.

Sync was originally a Microsoft product, but Ford took it over YEARS ago and is ENTIRELY inhouse Ford software now.

Added iOS support??? This is complete blather. First, virtually all in-car infotainment systems are smartphone agnostic and provide Bluetooth support, even Tesla. But Ford went the extra step and licensed and integrated CarPlay support to allow an iPhone access to vehicle information and defined control of the screens, including the instrument cluster. Under CarPay, apps that are designed to do so are accessible through the vehicle's central screen. While Ford's implementation of CarPlay support isn't perfect, I am pretty sure Ford believes it is an important feature and doesn't do it "because they didn't want to exclude anyone."

SYNC now runs on QNX, which was originally developed by Blackberry and powers the infotainment systems in several car makes. In the future, Ford intends to use an Android variant.

So, congratulations, you are factually wrong on all counts.

When did Ford take it over? It's Microsoft in my other truck, a 2013. And why does my router report a connection from a Linux based entity when I connected it to my wifi?

The ios part is factual as far as them getting along with Microsoft, WELL KNOWN FACT! Even Ford execs hated the system when it 1st came out because they used iphones, mostly not all.

Ford dumped Microsoft over a decade ago, in December 2014. SYNC is in NO WAY a Microsoft product anymore, and hasn't been for several generations of Ford vehicles.

Your comment about iOS compatibility was complete blather because MICROSOFT DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SYNC. So whether Microsoft and Apple products play nice with each other has absolutely nothing to do with this forum thread.

By the way, I noticed you are having a bad day on this forum; your ignorance had to be corrected in another thread regarding the eligibility of certain home chargers for electricity discounts. I have a suggestion: Post less and listen more.

Like I said, I have Sync by Microsoft in my 2013, it even has a tag on the door below the system stating such. If they dropped Sync in 2014, that would explain why I didn't know about Ford taking it over. Not a lie!

MS and Apple have always been at odds with each other and that is a FACT. Go read some history about it, you obviously skipped that part of time.

By the way, I'm having a wonderful time everywhere I go, I suggest you keep your mouth shut on that element as it makes you look ignorant. You don't know me and never will.

What you WON'T do is tell me what to do. EVER!

I've owned Apple products since 1983 when I bought a Lisa. Within fifteen feet of where I am sitting there are seven Apple devices. I have actually TWICE been retained as a consultant to Apple. I have personally been responsible for MILLIONS of dollars in Apple product purchases over the last 40 years. I was literally in the audience, in person, when on August 7, 1997 Microsoft leader Bill Gates told Steve Jobs that Microsoft was investing $150 million in Apple and was committing to full interoperability between the Mac and what would become known as the Office Suite.

Good bet that I have forgotten 100X more about Apple, its hardware, software, and marketing practices than you will ever know.
