Hey all. Not sure if this has come up. But I recently have been greeted by mice inside my frunk covering all my belongings in some lovely poop and pee. Turns out they are getting in through the 12v battery cover. There is a piece of foam at the bottom and its not enough to keep them out. There is no food in my frunk just some cloth cases they can chew on. Just a warning for anyone that hasn’t come across this yet.

I think this might be more common than people think. I've heard of / seen cats seek shelter in vehicles because they're warm or provide shelter. From the Mices perspective your frunk is an awesome home impervious to rain and predators lol.

I am in a rural area and I have had them in the Frunk and by the Air intake into the cab. I have a peppermint oil soaked terry cloth in the the battery cover slot. Seems to be working at keeping them out. I also have a rag in my tonneau covered bed. Seems to be working. Critters also seem to like being on the top of the battery between the cab and the bed. Nice warm spot in the winter while it is charging.

You will want to do something to prevent, repel, stop them from getting in and chewing up your wires!

My cats sleep up in the wheel well and somewhere in a frame cavity that I can't see....I have never had a mouse problem in my truck. Plenty of dead presents around it though.

if I was a mouse, the Frunk would be one of the best places I've ever stayed!

Soy based and "renewable" materials throughout the truck....of course rodents are going to prefer it. I'm surprised they haven't started chewing on the "ActiveX" seats yet.

I had one in the cab and then found it dead in the frunk. I put cab fresh sachets around and add balsamic vinegar for essential oil to them from time to time. Appreciate hearing about the spots where they’re getting in. Keep it up! Thanks!

I know mice and rats will chew on the wiring and eventually cause a short. I had that happen on a 2002 Grand Marquis I had. You need to do something to stop it like a mouse house trap. Nothing like a 400v short to wake you up next time you grab that door handle.

OP... Did you know they did a redesign on the 12v battery cover? Mine is a completely closed, no opening and no foam.

Mice will do what mice do best. Get into everything.

In the sub frunk I keep a thick piece of felt soaked with peppermint oil that I refresh every couple of months.

I did not know that. Ford must have already figured it out. Thank you for letting me know!

I use these devices on my Lightning and had them on my previous two Fords.

https://www.amazon.com/
Loraffe Under Hood Rodent Repellent for Car Engines, 12V 24V Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent with LED Strobe Lights – Mice and Rat Repeller for Truck, RV, Vehicle Engine Protection, Pack of 2

On the Lightning, I put it above and on the driver's side of the 12V battery in the large space behind the upper frunk wall.

This gizmo emits random white strobes as well as some ultrasound above humans' hearing range.

Once mounted, they have worked for years on my Fusion Energi, then on my Mach E and now on my Lightning.

Correlation not being proof of causation, yet I haven't had mice tracks in my engine / motor spaces - but Sonny Boy did have some in his Fusion, with significant electrical wire damage. Obviously, we park often in the same general space.
