Will You be buying the Lightning EREV?

I'm most certainly a "no". I'm in my late 40s. My partner is in their mid-50s. We want a chance to retire - at least if we don't have to flee this country. (I'm a triple citizen, so look up the news).

Our goal has always been to pay off all our consumer loans int he next two years, and then our mortgage in the next five to ten. The Truck was (and is) part of our energy security strategy for this place.

Additionally, I've been driving EVs now for just about 20 years. Our last car with an engine was 10 years ago - and that was a vehicle that ended up only ever turning its engine on because IT needed us to -not because we needed it to.

The lightning BEV, our 2017 Bolt EV, and my Vectrix VX-1 (currently off the road) are all the transport we need that isn't human-powered. I've got a deposit down on an Aptera, but I don't hold a huge amount of hope it will turn into an order. We'll see...

But take a truck we almost own and replace it with one that will cause us more pain, suffering, and maintenance costs? Nah. I'm good.

And by the looks of this poll, so many of you are too. I've been asking around some of my contacts at Ford - and let's just say, while they can't say anything negative... I'm inferring a lot of... "Well F...."

I just got my platinum on 11/25/25, leasing for 4 years. And I never keep a vehicle longer than that, so I’ll likely move to the EREV, especially if they do some lease pull ahead special for current Lightning leasees. Besides, in 4 years, I definitely want newer tech and tires, lol.

Hard no for me. The current shift away from BEV is, in my opinion, due to the current American administration and is generally temporary. BEV is the future, delay it all you want, but it is inevitable. I think of us as being in the transition period like when the first ICE vehicles came out and slowly replaced the horse and buggy. It's time for gas to go away and put the R&D into better battery tech and recycling processes.

No, and I've taken multiple trips. I've never had an issue with "waiting to charge". I just charge whenever I need to use the restroom or it's time to grab a quick snack. I hope to never own another non EV-only truck that can provide 240v output. I am hoping Rivian does this in the future as that was my first choice for an EV truck. I won't be upgrading for many years, so plenty of time for changes to happen (also high hopes for Scout).

The population we're polling is already pretty biased. We already believe in the Lightning.

There's a heavy sampling bias in this poll for sure. This population already bought a Lightning and it gets everywhere we need it to go.

There's already acknowledgement some owners tow and other's don't (see the "max tow package"). Why not just have an "ultra-tow package" to add the generator? Use the Ford patent to put it in bed. Just add the connectors and wiring harness needed with the ultra-tow package.

This is silly Ford won't productize their own intellectual property accessory and instead discontinues the best selling EV truck it its product line.

An EREV would be nice if they can keep the cost down, which we know won't be the case.

I had to haul a generator to the ski hill twice a week so I have enough safety margin to get home in bad weather (300km round trip). Not to mention the 2 weeks a year when I camp 200+km away from the closest fast charger and relies on buddy's powerboost to charge me up.

What I really wish for is a detachable generator that integrates into trucks control, and can supply/argument battery power WHILE driving or parked. It doesn't have to be a big V6, just 10-20kw and extend the range enough so that I can drive the truck all day.

There is such a project. Martin Meeks of Martin Rebuilds and a partner have been working on an F-150 Lightning range extender. Here is a recent YouTube video of a webcast where Martin is in the process of driving his Lightning on a road trip with a prototype range extender while towing: .

No way in hell will I be going back to anything that burns dead dinosaur juice. We've been an all-BEV family since Jan '13, when my Tesla Model S 60 (#500) was delivered. Both my wife & I have driven only BEVs ever since - and we'll continue to do so. I'll probably keep my '22 Lightning Lariat for the next 10 years or so, then look to see what new BEVs are out there. Hopefully they'll be featuring solid-state batteries with 600 mile range by then! Farley should be fired to this waffling (they'll lose $20 billion according to news reports). Hope that the Chinese automakers will be allowed in by then. Many reviews say that their cars are WAY ahead of any domestic/European/Japanese/Korean entries.

My Lightning has really been working well for me. I even pull a travel trailer routinely between Texas and Colorado. I have to stop and charge about every 100 miles pulling the travel trailer but access to Tesla superchargers has made this practical for my trips.
