hey guys, I haven’t been able to read all 42 pages here. I’m in the disappointed category.

Wondering what’s going on with all the other 100% electric trucks? Are they on a similar trajectory, or is it only a Ford-Lightning problem?

I’m hoping that I’ll be driving my 24 lariat for the next 10-15 yrs, love it.

Am I crazy or can someone correct me if I'm wrong...?
As far as I understand EREVs, the generator charging the battery is literally only used to charge the battery - as in it cannot be used to move the vehicle or provide any other traditional engine functions... right?
If this is the case, why are so many hung up on maintenance?
From my possibly related experience with an actual generator used to power my house in an outage - the only maintenance has been changing the oil, filters and new spark plugs...and this thing is almost 30 years old...and has seen zero professional servicing lol.
I get not being pure BEV is a bummer (I'm disappointed too) but I don't think an EREV will be the stealership maintenance monster people are making it out to be...
Ford has made a ton of unforced errors with the Lightning for sure, but I'm interested in seeing where this goes. I just hope they've taken ALL the feedback from the Lightning to heart
You are not wrong in part one!
Being hung up on maintenance at least for me it is because with the current iteration of the Ford lightning, there is virtually no maintenance at all!!!
I have done my own oil changes and 99% of the other maintenance for my and my children’s vehicles for longer than you’ve owned your generator and it’s just such a PITA versus not having any!
Just my two cents!

Correct - there is no nation at 100% EV fleet. Even the countries with "95% of new car sales are EV's" generally gloss over the 70% of the active on the road vehicles remain ICE, and it will take a long time to fully replace ICE with EV's even with the very high EV sales in say Norway.
A search shows:
30% of cars on the road today in Norway are EV's, expected to hit 33% by end of 2025.
New car sales are 95% EV's
New Car sales in Norway are approximately 5% of the fleet each year.
At current projections Norway will not be 100% EV for about 15 more years, ie 2040.

If you study the transition from sail to steam, from coal to oil, from horses to cars, from wood and coal buring to natural gas use, and now heat pumps... there is a typical pattern and it takes longer than you expect ,upwards of 70 years for a change to dominate. In all cases it seems the new technology has to achieve Price Parity with the old one before things really take off.
Has anyone said anything other than the United States is lagging sorely behind the rest of the world? The statement stands, and is still true.

Where it will take them 15 more years, we're on track for half a century or more of "no take my vroom vroom".

Personally, I am not upset at Ford's decision to cancel the lightning. They are losing money on the platform, so they have to do something.

I'm also not opposed to EREV's. In fact, I was excited about the toolbox generator before the Lightning even came to market. I could see a world where Ford or some 3rd party would lease the generator whenever you were planning on taking a trip through areas with poor charging infrastructure.

What bothers me is that Ford is taking the wrong lesson from their failures. I am hoping they will call off this train wreck before they throw away even more money. Despite how large they are, there is a limit to how much money they can waste. As expensive as vehicles have become, if Ford has to sell off it will lead to even higher prices.

First of all, thank you to everyone for the candid feedback and discussions in this forum. I have been sharing common themes with management. I want to triple down on something initially shared. Like all vehicles, we will maintain parts and service for 10 years. We are also committed to ensuring ongoing support of our vehicles’ software quality and experience.

Sharing more information on the above as I get my hands on it.
  • We have good dealer stock of F-150 Lightning now and more in transit to dealers for those who may want one
  • We expect to have F-150 Lightning inventory into 2026, so there is plenty of opportunity for customers to get a Lightning for many months
  • We will have early bird and renewal programs in place to support returning F-150 Lightning lessees and owners to get into another truck
  • We will add additional programs next year to extend leases for customers interested in our new electric (UEV) pickup truck coming in 2027
  • We will add additional programs to support off-lease customers who are interested in purchasing their F-150L and keep it for a long time
  • Ford Power Promise continues in 2026
I don't like the fact that it seems Ford is catering to those who leased and not providing any relief for those who bought.

Also, why should we believe Ford about any new technology in new vehicles? They just proved that they don't stand behind their "new" products. Should we buy into their new idea only to abandon it 3 years later?

If you consider the US personal auto fleet is approx 300-million cars/Lt trucks,
of those 4-million are currently EV/PHEV.
New car sales are 14-15 million units per year...of those 1-2 million are EV/PHEV units.
even if 100% of new passenger vehicles sold from now on were EV's - it would take 20 years to replace the fleet, and we can't build 14-million EV's per year currently.

The point is, "no matter what", a transition from ICE to EV will take a lot longer than most people realize, even in coutries like Norway, the minimum is 15 more years. In N. America the EV output at current rates of growth will take 60-80 years just to make 300-million new EV/PHEV vehicles...and then theres the rest of the infrastructure to go with that.

Brian @Ford Motor Company thank you for the awesome support and transparency.

Quick question, will you continue to evaluate the DCFC charging curve on the Lightning? The updated curve that the 2025’s shipped with is great, but still hardly stresses the pack. It would be fantastic to see if 500a can be held longer.

That’s said if it’s prioritizing DCFC speeds or improving the app and Sync UI experience for owners, then I’d say focus on the user experience. 🤣

Well, which nation is the world's leading oil producer? Hint, it isn't in the Middle East.

Getting off of oil is is becoming a security issue for other countries, aside from the environmental and health impacts.

What does that have to do with Ford or this community? That’s political policy which we have no control over.

I'm not even sure what this posting from Ford implies. EREV?? LFP Battery, mid-size truck? On-Board Generator? If you're asking me if I would buy a Mid-Size (Ford Ranger), with a battery that is twice as heavy, get's 2/3 of the storage efficiency of the current battery, and would have to be as heavy as a full size T3 Ford Lightning, the answer is no thanks. LFP is a battery tech that has been around a while, and while it has a lot of charge cycles, just doesn't meet the goal of having a 100% EV that can tow heavy trailers, and needs a gas motor to charge the battery en-route, you might want to poll your customers, because this will not be a good seller in my opinion. You should look at the new AL-Ion battery, which is 1/2 the weight, and charges fast and has the potential for very good range. You have a good product in the Ford Lightning, (T3), and just needed to work on the range, and lowering the cost.

Good Luck to Ford,

Why not keep the BEV option for those of us who rarely tow and when we do we don’t go far. I can see for that user who has long-distance towing as part of the recreation or their business, the ERBV would be an advantage. However, it adds a lot of complexity and a lot more maintenance. I would think a modular add-on for extended range of the current vehicle would make sense. EV battery costs are going to come down, but I don’t see the technology that an EREV like you are proposing is gonna make this more affordable. Good luck with your new endeavor. Unfortunately I have no use for it and I will just keep my BEV until I’m either too old to drive or my Lightning wears out, whichever comes first.
