This is from Febuary last year, so it's not that I just updated all the modules and it's a new behaviour.

If you have your truck "running" (foot on brake, start button) when plugged in, then it will heat the battery to 60F+, at least it used to, I haven't confirmed that it still does more recently.

Do you have departure times set?

After some testing it looks to be a charging current condition.

When charging at 48a my truck immediately pegs the heater. When I lower my EVSE doen to around 36-38 I see the heating stop (pack is at 41f).

So there looks to be extra heating done on higher power chargers

In the end lithium plating is something that happens when charging at lower temps. I dont think its that big of a deal at 42f and 36a, but why worry about it...and...
It looks to maybe ad $15 per month to my electricity bill but also bleeds the heat into my insulated garage.

So I'll keep spending money to heat my battery to 60f just to have it bleed away. I could set a departure time, which would heat the battery closer to when I leave, but then the extra heat would just bleed off in the parking lot at work.

Now there's a flex if I've ever seen one - yeah, I bought a Lightning to use as a space heater

Normally not, and not in that graph. That was just normal charging.
I see a distinct difference between the spontanous heating (~37F), heating while charging (~45F) and pre-conditioning (~68F)

I will admit, part of me didnt mind....heck I use a space heater some times, no real difference....

Except there is a perfectly good wood stove next to it, i dont mind the garage as long as it s over 45f, and my electricity bill is already $700 a month (and thats with a geothermal unit).

But for $15, and its good for the truck...so be it i guess

This morning my truck did 9 minutes of spontaneous conditioning, only took 0.888 kWh.

The prior afternoon charging session was about 21 kWh, and that included a warming phase, the residual heat bleed out overnight, necessitating additional warming this morning.

I'm doing a 15 minute remote start right now.
