Slightly annoying, but slowly becoming more and more annoying every time it happens.

I only charge at one location, home, so I can only imagine how more annoying it is for people with multiple charge locations to have to redo them.

They ought to require programmers to actually USE the things they are updating, then maybe they'd have a clue?
Brian from Ford responded on the other PT thread (a different version number but the same package). See below for what happened and why this should be the last time:

Hi folks,

Jumping in here because I know how annoying it is to hop in the truck and realize your charge settings have vanished. I grabbed some time with the engineering team to understand what has happened.

Here is the lowdown:

The powertrain update is doing some housekeeping behind the scenes to make your stored settings more resilient during future updates. The catch? The system can clear current settings in the process. I know it’s a hassle to set them back up (it’s definitely not my favorite hobby either), but the good news is that once you do the team has said that they shouldn't be affected by future updates.

The update is rolling out now to 2022/2023 trucks with a version for 2024s coming in the future.

Thanks for bearing with us!

Just like some other folks, mine will NOT update this PT-25.8.5. Always getting the Low Battery message. Been hooked up to the battery maintainer overnight. Battery showing full. Try to initiate the install manually. No go. Battery too low message. Getting real tired of this crap. All doors closed, frunk closed, no accessories plugged in, etc.
If you still have the original battery, it’s time to replace it.

I mistakenly had my 12v charger hooked directly to the battery instead of the connection points on the right side of the frunk.
It's perfectly fine to connect the charger in the battery compartment (easier) but as I mentioned, you MUST be downstream of the BMS. I posted a pic here.

I have used these connection points many times to get through updates that fail with low voltage.

Yes, it is the original. Gonna look into replacing it now. Thx
Might also try running the the truck for 6 hours tomorrow in the evening before the 1 am update. Keep the maintainer on as well.

BTW, I've had my 2012 Nissan Leaf 12v AGM on a maintainer since Feb 2012, still alive and kicking 13 years later.

Lead-acid batteries will last a lot longer if on a maintainer as often as possible - they prefer to be at 100% and topped off after being discharged so the sulfates don't become permanent using a gentle charging current so they are not heat stressed leading to loss of electrolyte through venting.

Look for one with an AGM mode.

In case Ford does not want to replace my 12v battery under warrenty, is there any pre or post op that needs to be done if I replace it myself? After the new battery is installed, any procedures to follow?

Yes you have to reset the BMS which goes like this if I have it right:

LVB BMS reset

Make sure 12v battery is fully charged (drive an hour, or after an hour actively charging the HVB)
Start Accessory mode
flash high beams 5 times
step on brake pedal 3 times
red battery icon on dash should flash 3 times

If the dealer changes the 12v battery, they should do this, but they don't always. If they plan on keeping it overnight, there is a good chance they will - Just ask when you pick it up.

Ok, thought I would have to reset the BMS. Done that before for another problem I had. Thanks!! Will call the dealer now.

I can not get this update to take for the life of me.
Same issue for me, except, I just had my LVB replaced under 5 yr/36,000 mi warranty on Friday (02/13). Was getting the error messages before the LVB replacement, and still getting them after. Can't get it to take when parked by choosing, "Update Now," or at my scheduled 3 AM time. OBD II showed 14.8V at 87% for the LVB SoC this afternoon. We'll see if anything changes when I wake up tomorrow. This has been going on since it first popped up at 8 AM on Wednesday (02/11). Very frustrating experience, once again. Interestingly enough, it has yet to showed up as a pending update in my FordPass app, only as messages on the Sync 4A in-vehcile screen.

It is frustrating. If it fails again, you need to put the battery on a maintainer and also try running the truck for 6 hours in the afternoon/evening before letting it do the scheduled update overnight. See my post 81 and 94.

My recommendation to anyone who have issues with low SOC LVB: charge your tuck from L1 charger time to time. If you have opportunity to leave your truck on L1 charger for 1-2-3 days - make it. Quite often L2 charging time just not enough to charge LVB to high SOC.

I have original 12v battery, more than 3 years old, never reset, never charged by any 3rd party charger and never had issues except once but I know why it was totally my fault and solved by leaving truck ON for 8 hours.

Regarding the update: installation was about 15 mins, truck did bunch of noises and clicks, pump running near rear motor/inverter, but it unlocked the 500-amp charging curve finally! That day, I observed a peak charging power of 192 kW.

I hooked up my 3amp Battery Tender, and that night it updated fine. Didn't need anything more powerful. I didn't lose my home charging, nor my door code, just my radio stations.

On a Rivian forum I've recently joined (as I consider replacing the Mach-E), a thread was discussing updates, and a person put forth how Ford did a lot of them. After I cleaned up the drink that shot out my nose, I explained that Ford announces a feature and then sends out an update maybe 12 to 18 months later, that many updates are to fix problems, and that even with a recall it takes many months for an update to be created. Not even close to the same situation.

This post goes through all the different ways to resolve that issue by getting the 12v battery up to a sufficient level, from the Ford Mach-e forum - the L2 charging overnight worked for me back before I put my truck on a maintainer (summer of 2024):

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/how-to-get-failed-otas-to-install.29749/

By the way, maybe when they replaced the battery they didn't reset the BMS correctly, might try that (see a previous post in this thread)?
