I saw this FB Marketplace listing for a Ford truck that has a hydraulic bed that can dump. I’ve never seen this before. So of course it had me wondering if this could ever be done on a Lightning?

I suspect there is not enough space for the ram and supporting hydraulic pump, etc.

My dad had an old/new 73 Ford truck with a dump bed installed on it. This was back in 74 or75.

If the hydraulics have room to articulate, I see no other reason it won't work on our trucks. It was a pretty simple system iirc.

That’s cool. I’ve never seen one of these in real life before but it seems like a really cool feature for not a lot of complexity.

I mean, with enough money, ANYTHING is possible, but with the official payload capacity of these trucks so low already, the hardware to make it a dump bed would probably exceed or eat up the available capacity, so you'd have a dump bed that you couldn't put anything in - the one you showed was on a F350 for a reason!

Think about where some of the battery modules sit and maybe that would present some problems?

The one my dad had was a 250 iirc maybe 350, only thing else I remember was the rear axle hubs had a bolt pattern sticking out the steel wheel center.

He left for sea duty and my mom traded it in for a new Torino sport. Haha he was pissed when he got back.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Ford does not recommend removing the bed and it has something to do with the HV battery and maybe the wiring.

Given that there are outfitters out there who have developed rear beds for the lightning - I don't see why they couldn't re-engineer it to add tipper support.

The issue however is that you'd not only need to add space for a hydraulic or electric actuator - but you'd need to ensure it sits proud of the bed and the battery pack. The result would likely be a higher bed floor, and loss of bed depth.
