22 Lariat LR 84K- My SOH per scanner was 100% in January,26 went to 98.5 when I check in March and April, 26. Had a breakdown May 26 truck would not run, towed to Ford, 4 battery modules were replaced with remanufactured batteries. Got truck back after a month and now SOH is 79%., runs fine. It has not changed in 2 weeks after repair? should I be worried? In reading on forums , it says it takes some time to restabilize the BRM and SOH readings. Any Thoughts?

Yeah maybe charge it first.

Replacing modules sets up a condition where the pack as a whole will likely degrade more over time. It has to do with the difference in capacity of the original cells going up against the the replacements.

The key is Ford needs to keep your overall capacity above 70% of the original. At least for the 8yrs/100k of the battery warranty.

The dealer is supposed to run a balancing routine when replacing modules. It’s been reported that it’s not always done. Charge it to 100%.

As other said, charge to 100% on a level 2 charger, AND leave it there without interruption on the level 2 for several hours after reaching 100%. The wires for balancing are apparently very small and it can take significant time after reaching 100% to fully balance cells.

When i had my module replaced in Feb my SOH was at 89% if I remember. Since then I've been charging to 100% twice a month. My SOH is currently at 95%. Truck works great. No issues charging. It'll just take a little while to stabilize.

On this note, what is the best practice for periodic 100% charging to balance the cells? Once per month?

My SOH was 98.5% before going in for similar service. It was just over 80% afterwards. Today it is 99.5%, but it took 3 months to get back. As others mentioned, the battery needs time and cycles to balance. Charge to 100% and leave it sitting untouched on the charger for several hours afterwards. Drive through something like full battery cycles, i.e down into the teens soc, then L2 back up to 100%. It will take a few cycles but will/should recover.

You may find that the first few L2 charge sessions take a very long time to work through the last few %, and it may stop charging at eg 97% and jump to 100%. This too will resolve following the strategy above.

Opinions vary on this, so this is just MHO. If you deep cycle allot, or do allot of DCFC, then IMHO monthly is warranted, as it's easier for cells to get out of balance due to not having enough time for the BMS to so it's job. In my case I'm mostly between 40% and 80%. I drive approximately 1000-1100 miles per month. Therefore I top balance only occasionally, only when I know I'm going to be doing a deeper discharge due to a planned trip where it won't sit at a high SOC once off the level 2. Generally every 3-4 months. Result isy BMS says 100% SOH at 29.5K miles with very low voltage variation. YMMV

Was about to reply with exactly the same thing as @electricpig. Wide variety of opinions, my own aligns with that reply. Last couple times I went to 100% I peaked at 127kWh available. With 60k miles and 4 years on the clock, I'm happy with that. I could probably squeak out a another kWh or so if I did a cycle down to 10 and charged back up. Might do that next week as I'll be road tripping for the 4th.

FWIW, I have found that the.amount of calculated capacity is highest when I've charged to 100%, let it balance in milder weather. If I did the.above I may show 98 kw actual capacity after balancing in winter and 40 degrees vs 104 kw actual capacity at 78 degrees after balancing. Point being, temperature significantly affects readings.

True, thankfully it's rarely cold enough here to impact me in that regard. On the flip side, I do also notice slightly less than ideal when it's super hot out. I think it was in the 80's when I last topped up but I also ended up pulling off the charger without letting everything settle. That's why I think I can probably get it back to 128-129kWh. I've never seen it go higher even when overnight to 100% in the 70's.

Following this with lots of opinions and ideas. You need to deplete to absolute zero SoC, in addition to charging to 100% for the BMS to re-learn and balance everything. After that if you are anything less than 90% SoH we need to talk and I can help you demand a full new battery. DM me.

Doesn't Ford specify 22 days for full learning and calibration? I highly suggest a gentler approach. I would not try to push zero with an unbalanced battery, it will stop operating when the lowest voltage reaches threshold, even if estimated capacity is still some soc>0.
