Just a point here.. AI needs educating... tell it what it got wrong and ask it to remember what you've taught it.. Most AI will tie what you've trained to your logged in account so the next time it gets it right.. This is the big difference between AI and basic "limited" hard coded responses. Since there are so many more answers you have to teach it.. the good news is that if you telling to play Stairway to Heaven using YouTube music or more precisely you tell it to remember that when you ask it to play music always use YouTube music it should always remember that going forward except when you tell it, this time one time play it on Amazon Music or Spotify or whatever it has access to.

I thought it was a matter of education but it refused to learn. If I told it to "open YouTube Music and play Stairway to Heaven," it couldn't do it. When I told it to play all music in YouTube Music it agreed but then never opened YouTube Music to play music.

When my kids would ask me to play a song while I was listening to a podcast I had to open YouTube Music and start a song manually before I could ask Gemini Assistant to play a song. It was too distracting for something the old dumb assistant did right every time.

If you use Waze, you just may find Mr T available. They have tons of installable voices! As for AA, Gemini voices, I had been so used to Orbit as my gemini assistant voice, but sometimes it uses the old Google assistant voices. It's confusing!

I know it can be frustrating (being to sound like a AI response) couple points.. Gemini needs to be installed and enabled on your phone.. some recommendations since you are training a 5 year old, teach Gemini what to do before you get in the car... for instance tell Gemini on your phone that when I ask you to play music that you always use the YouTube music app.. then tell it to remember that. One more thing you have to be sure you have memory turned on Profile Picture > Settings > Personal Intelligence > Memory.. and just to be sure things don't get strangled in permission he'll, check that all Gemini permissions are set right for Android Auto... if you are lost just ask gemini for the steps so that Gemini will remember how to open apps in android auto..

I had an interesting experience this weekend when I was picking up people at the airport...

The route I took, took me by the office so I figured I'd drop some stuff off, no worries there.

On my way there I ask Gemeni when the flight (correct flight number and everything) would arrive... Flight is late by 15min 11.20, OK cool, I got 15min extra at the office.

I arrive, I do my thing, and just to double check that everything is still on for 11.20 I pull out my phone and check regular google - flight arriving early, 10.55 - wtf !?

I hop in the car and start driving because now I'm late instead... ask Gemeni the same thing... flight late, 11.20

Arrive at the airport, people say they landed, regular google say they landed, Gemeni still insists on 11.20

I get that Gemeni isn't perhaps updated as fast / frequently (you'd think they have access to the same data) but if it's lagging behind 30-60min or whatever the number is, then it's not that great for in vehicle use.

If you use FlightAware, you setup the flight and it notifies you of any changes. Or, the specific airline and setup text alerts. "AI" has no better information, so adds no value.

AI is full of talk and answers. The big question is how many of them are right?
With the old assistant, swearing at it got amusing results. I haven't tried it yet with the new.

Slightly humorous results from the new Gemini Assistant when voice dialing my spouse:

Call ICE firstname lastname
response: there is no contact named ....
repeat twice more... then I tried
Call firstname lastname
response: Calling ICE firstname lastname
Me: Oh really

And it has gotten smarter. For some reason it searches Google Maps (also) before it searches my local on phone contacts. Google found a realtor somewhere with the same name as my spouse. For the past few days now, it always calls this realtor. Google is going to get me into trouble!

Since the Gemini update, I have had this situation many times. First of all, I almost never use voice commands in the truck (or on my phone). The problem is that I will be talking to a passenger, and all of a sudden, Gemini will think I asked it a question, and provide an answer that I do not want and can't stop. For example, this afternoon I asked my wife "Is there anything we are desperate for from Walmart?" Before I could finish the question, Gemini started on an over one full minute dissertation on passports - what is required, where to get one, where to get photos taken, etc. Nothing I could yell at it to get it to stop talking. Anyone else seeing this issue? And any suggestions on how to shut it up?

I agree with all of these posts that Gemini as the voice assistant in AA has been a large move backwards so far. Almost makes me want to try the Ford voice assistant again {shudder}....

Maybe this could help. I will definitely try it tomorrow...

Concise Mode: On your car's Android Auto screen, go to Settings > Voice Response Length and set it to Short. This stops the AI from giving long "Sure, I can help with that" preambles before navigating. [1]

There are other settings too, but this was the only one I saw that might help. I do recall an option to change back to the previous voice assistant. I think I read that was a one time choice with no option to go back to Gemini but that doesn't make sense to me either.

Be sure you have the voice assistant to require a preamble (standard is hey google) otherwise it will just try and answer your questions...
