Well, guys, I guess it's time to send her to the crusher, my SOH dropped below 100%.

Lol in all seriousness, a bit sad to see, but not unexpected given my truck's age and and now coming on three summers in a row of cross country road-tripping DC charging all the way. All in all, I think I'm doing pretty good.

I'm certain today was the day the BECM decided that I've dropped below 100% SOH, since I checked it just last night and it was reading 100.

I was just thinking that.

Just my speculation, but I believe for the battery's long-term health, it should get a cell balancing at least every month or two. This only happens when charging to 100%.

My speculation comes from my FFE's battery that still gets good performance after 8.5 years and nearly 3000 charges with all the AC charges to 100%.

Not sure mileage is hurting your SOH.
My 2024 Lariat is at 41,000 and it is still 100%.
Built in July 2024.
Bought Jan 2025.
Never been on a DC fast charger.
Only use a 40 amp AC home charger. (everyday)
Charge to 95% from mid DEC to mid MARCH. (Philly area cold months)
Charge to 85% the rest of the year.
Charge to 100% once every two months.

What is your available energy at 100% SOC? Since it's warm in most places, lower available energy from cold battery pack shouldn't be a problem. Last couple times I charged to 100% I couldn't get more than 128kWh. I didn't start using my ODB reader right away, so I don't know what it was at new but assuming I had 131kWh as advertised then I'm around 97.7% of original capacity @ 4 years/61k miles. If that rate holds steady I'm looking at 88% left after 20 years/300k miles. I get the feeling I'll have to replace the motors long before the battery.

Checked mine over the weekend... 100% after 46 months and 48k miles of ownership. The caveat being that I had a module fail late last year so I'm not fully on my original battery.

I recently charged up to 100%, before I first left PA, but I can try that again.

As for multiple stops, you can bet I've had multiple stops towing from PA to where I am now, Colorado! Still many more to go before I make it to WA!

Li battery degradation is non-linear. See the graph in "The Science" section of this article. Meaning a "X% per year battery loss" interpretation is incorrect.

All we can say is EV batteries drop off for a bit at the beginning, then hold steady for a very long time.

There's some lab testing data out there saying the NMC batteries have a 500-2,000 cycle lifespan depending on usage. That works out to around 124,000 - 500,000 miles.

131kWh × 2000 cycles × 1.9 mi/kWh = 497,800 miles.


One other nuance is lab testing is not real world conditions, which is likely why we're seeing such great battery health. I think of it as Engineers over-engineered.

In terms of calendar aging, most would still consider me young, but my health issues mean my SOH is worse than most that are 65+

Yeah I'm not convinced that state of health has any significant meaning except in cases of extreme values.

When I pulled the state of health on this truck immediately after purchase, it showed 98%. Today when I just checked it, it showed 99.5%.
