Those VA ones have been problematic for a while unfortunately. I had trouble at the Richmond location a couple of months back.

We're heading to TN in a few weeks and I keep looking at the EA reviews on the I81 corridor on plugshare to see how they are doing. I want to take the lightning but if they end up having throttling problems like the I95 corridor I think I'll be back in the wife's SUV.
They were pretty consistent prior to the summer and problem free. The summer has been wrecking havoc on the network. Makes me wonder if the units are overheating.

I’m posting this as I think it’s my last long trip with the Lightning until we get our NACS adapters. I’m not sure if it’s the heavy summer usage, but another 3 EA chargers.

Max of 30/42/57kW. I would say it’s the truck but I got 167kW just 4 days ago. If this continues I have to consider picking something else up for long trips or trade it in for a Hybrid like @Commercial Sales Ford did..
Went back and read your charging nightmare that sounds horrible.

Would welcome you to the hybrid world I've got 24k miles on it and still going strong averaging 22.5MPG. I'm hoping maybe Ford will come out with a plug in version, Best of both worlds.

If they had a plug in version with say a 30-45KW battery, I would be all over it. In an ideal world I would love about 100 miles of all electric range and then to kick on the engine after that.

The prices at EA chargers aren’t much cheaper than gas anyway. And the 100 miles would be enough on a daily basis.

That would be perfect, I do 90 miles a day at least so I could use almost no gas on a day to day basis but when I needed to pony up and head somewhere I could with no problem.

You're correct I remember in my short stint with the lighting that when I used a EA charger and did the math it was the same as gas, but the thought is it's cheaper when you can charge at home VS road trips.

In case anyone has wondered, just how far behind is non-Tesla charging networks?

A 500 mile trip comparison with the same driving habits.

ICE car, 1 stop. 8 hours.
Lightning when EA works flawlessly: 1 stop. 8 hours 30 minutes. Real world range of 290-295 miles.

Lightning typically with EA problems: 2-4 stops. 10-11.5 hours.

For comparison I also have a Tesla Model X 75D with 215 miles of range indicated (older w/ degradation) which works out to 140 miles real world with a max charging speed of 120KW. 4-5 stops. 9.5-10 hours.

The piss poor charging infrastructure essentially negates my ER and turns it into a SR. So to me, I’m putting a $10,000 per vehicle value increase with the adoption of NACS based on what Ford charges for the larger pack.

Just highlights we don’t need bigger packs. We need better charging. I’ll gladly swap out 30KWh for consistently available high speed charging.

Sharing here because everyone went quiet and I’m lonely.

You always were needy… 😁

I agree and would add that you have the added benefit of the abundance of the Tesla superchargers too. If one is down or full there seems to be another group nearby (not in rural areas but in most suburban areas it seems).

I was looking at the VADOT NEVI implementation plan and it will be interesting to see if they get it build out as they’ve outlined. If so it would fill in the gaps and give more options to find the ”flawless“ charger to make the trip more palatable.

I’m on the fence about this upcoming TN trip. Plugshare has all the chargers in route as operational and not throttled. BUT the one closest to our destination in Knoxville appears to be throttled/broken and unfortunately it’s the only one in the area other than a supercharger. Only other option is my in-laws 110v outlet.

I’m not needy, I suffer from desired attention deficit.

Can you get to Knoxvile without that one? Or do you need it to get all the way there?

I think I can get by without it. The one on the east side in Kodak is about 70 mi from their house. The issue is driving around while we're there.

I think I'll hit the one in Kodak on the way in to fill up. That'll get us there and we'll be back over at Dollywood later in the week so I'll plan on using that one again to fill up and just use the one on the west side that seems to be problematic as a top off if needed.

ABRP has the 505 mi trip at 9.5hrs total with 3 stops (2.5 hrs of charge time) to reach their house with a 60% charge. Which would give me enough juice to drive back to Dollywood and make it to the charger in Kodak at about 10%.

I dream of the days when it won't require this much brain power to road trip with it...

Well I got an update on the Wife’s Mach E
“ I see your order status is Awaiting Shipment at Ramp 5C, Envios, EM to be shipped Convoy - Convoy # 230731247 (Consorcio De Servicios Internacionales Sa De Cv ). The order has an estimated delivery date between Sep-01-Sep-07 which is only an estimate.”
I guess we know what the ramp number is down there now. I’m not sure about the convoy… maybe that is how it gets to the rail yard. It seems our Lightnings did something similar. It sucks they moved the delivery date from Aug 7-10 until Sept.

Not yet…. Last time I had an android and couldn’t get the thing programmed right to click through the prompts. Now that The Boss made me switch to the 14 Pro maybe it will work better. However our new tracking system at work is much better. Maybe I’ll just bug the GM every 15 minutes for location updates.

This came in today so the Wife may make me just take it instead. I’m just not sold on the color.

Don’t do it. I’m a firm believer that it’s got to be the right color for you. It’s what you see most often
