Others have gone much further, and I won’t be too detailed, but I want to share a good trip report.
My brother got married two weeks ago and moved to Harrisburg Pennsylvania; he couldn’t take everything with him, so I loaded everything he left into my ‘23 lightning Pro SR and took it to him this last week. This included a VERY heavy gun safe.
This was my first time in that part of the country, so I took my mother with me to tour some of the sites.
It’s about 800 miles from my home South of Atlanta to Harrisburg; I drove all 16 hours on Monday. Tuesday we unloaded everything and went to Gettysburg. Wednesday Washington DC. Thursday Antietam. Friday we started home and camped at Natural Bridge state park VA. Saturday finished the trip home.
Truck was fantastic. Despite 2,000 miles and 50 hours in the truck (including charging stops and slow tours), I never got uncomfortable in the seat. An ICE vehicle has advantages for long trips, but I would still choose this truck; ride quality, acceleration, quiet, Pro Power, etc. gives my truck a terrific driving experience.
Charging was a breeze. The East coast has a strong charging infrastructure built up now, so never had a flash of worry. Mostly Tesla with a few others sprinkled in.
Pro Power let me use a powered cooler/freezer, air fryer, toaster oven, electric burners, etc. for convenient food while traveling (I love cooking a pizza from my truck tailgate while charging!)
I was pleasantly surprised by the trip efficiency; total average was 2.3 miles/KWH. I got slightly better rates going up there than going home despite the heavy gun safe. Estimated range was always close to actual range other than one leg of the trip that had a headwind.
I spent about $350 on charging costs which is comparable to a gas truck from my rough calculations. On trips to Florida I’ve found cheap or even free chargers, but those were often slow or out of the way. I should have done more research and found some on this trip, but with so much to do, convenience and speed were more valuable than saving $15, though I did plan some “off peak” charging early mornings just for the savings. Future note: If I travel at night, the off peak savings would be worth it I think.
