20% tint too dark?

So I have read through most of the threads on window tint and I’m looking for feedback specifically as to whether 20% tint is too dark for front side windows in rural areas at night. Currently have 45 on sides and want to go a bit darker. I’m going with Xpel XR black, just going back and forth between 20 and 30/35. Thanks

Check local and state laws as they will be different from state to state. Ours just went darker from 40 to 25%

Do you have a regulated limit in your state? 35% should be a pretty close match to the rear. I personally went for that look and tried to match the back.

35% is what I have on the front sides to match the back. But I strongly recommend also doing your windshield not only for the eyes but it truly helps to keep the cabin cooler.

I’m in New Jersey, one of the few states that does not allow tint on the front side windows, but it doesn’t really seem to be enforced in my area.

Thanks. Currently have 70% tint on the windshield and 45% on the front doors, the front doors almost look like there is no tint on them so looking to go a little darker and have decent visibility at night. I’d imagine that 35% on yours is a shade or two lighter than the backs, correct?

Was an el cheapo amazon special, but my rears were reading 19.8. Had 20 installed on the front sides and it's pretty close. Definitely like it better than the 35 I have on the Ram and Tacoma. As mentioned be aware of your state laws unless you have a medical exemption or know someone.

20% is not very dark on the truck. The windows are large and emit a lot of light.

I have the same brand tint but in 15%… I’m typically a 5%/limo purchaser but this is easier at night for driving.

if you go to my lifted thread and look at the 2nd pic, this will give you an idea that the 20% would be a tad lighter than mine. Of note, my pic during the time of day made it look darker than it is typically looks when I routinely see it.

15% here too. I do not tint windshield in my cars.

I usually have a 5% brow done, not the entire windshield, makes one helluva difference and is legal, just stay at or above those lines on the glass.

In SC we do not have vehicle inspections so, I guess it boils down to the police pulling you over that day.

I will say I did tint the head lights and light bar when I first got the truck as it looked amazing during the day but with the windshield and head lights visibility at night was almost non-existent. That was taken off in less than a week.

Also with HD car camera the windshield tint does not seem to affect the image quality. I'm case anyone was wondering.

I have 20% on the truck, I personally would have done 15%, but I bought a 20% roll.
Windshield tint is very helpful-- not just for heat, but also for glare from other vehicles headlights at night. 50% is what I do. 70% is practically clear- just for heat.

I went 10% on my Mach E on sides and back. I absolutely love the way it looks, but it is a little tough sometimes on dark roads. I’ve rolled my windows down more than a few times when turning at night in unlit rural areas just to make sure I have good visibility.

I haven’t tinted the Lightning yet, but when I do I’ll go 20% instead.

For the record I’m in Maryland. State regulation is 35%, but typically it’s not enforced unless it’s on the windshield.

Another benefit that I don’t see mentioned much is the glare off a wet road is almost nonexistent.

For my fellow drivers with astigmatism, those headlight halos are at least half size now with just a 70% ceramic tint. Be sure to use ceramic for this one, regular film won’t do much for this.

I bought mine used, with tint on the front windows, and I'll tell you, at night and in the rain, it's tough.

Be careful about going too dark...
