Ok,
Ive only ever towed with my old f250 xl so ive qot questions. My 2023 lightning lariat er unfortunately didnt have the chip for.it to have the tow package of up to 10000 lbs. Sucks. I own a 16 foot tandem gatormade trailer (not dovetail) ive read the door gvwr, gawr, and have the trailers weight. What is a safe load to have on that trailer for towing? Many thanks and i can provide more information if needed.

Seems like your trailer is capped at 5180 lb payload capacity (7000 lb total). Sounds like that’s your limiting factor if your truck is rated to tow up to 7700 lbs.

You will likely have a capacity of 5k (standard range battery), 7.7k (max tow with standard range battery or long range battery), or 10k (long range battery and max tow package).

edit: There is a reduction in towing for the Platinum trim.

Can I add the max towing package after the fact? I don't think I'll need it, but would be nice to be able to get it or an aftermarket alternative if I did need to tow that extra ton or so.

You can add a trailer brake controller. Im not sure if you can add an e-locker, an extra cooling loop, or the hill decent control

No, it's not available after factory production of the truck.

Since the only thing that really affects towing in the Max Towing Package is the extra cooling loop, it seems to me that if a guy watches his gauges and makes sure the battery and motors stay within range there is no reason not to tow up to 10,000 lbs. with any F-150 Lightning. Obviously you must have a trailer brake controller, but the truck itself should be just fine.

Good to hear. Thanks for that info. So suspension is no different between the options? Only the trailer brake would need to be added?
