I have the 2023 ER Lightning. I need to pick up about 2750 lbs of vinyl plank flooring for a 50 mile drive. The payload says 2235. I am not worried about battery degradation.....but any risk to bed or infrastructure with that weight?

sw engineering manager,
Tires would be one of the most catastrophic things that could fail if you overload your truck. Make sure they are aired up to max pressure to reduce heat buildup. Also keep speeds lower.

An ER with a 2,235 payload sticker? That’s impressive. I’ve never seen one that high.

I was going to suggest the same as @MaintGrl , divide the load between the bed and the trailer with more weight in the trailer. Don't overload either one.

The maximum load on an ER door jamb I’ve seen was 1952 lbs. My ER Lariat’s factory rating is 1626 pounds. And you have to subtract the weight of the occupants before you get to true payload capacity.

I would absolutely bring a trailer, even if I had to rent one.

My 23 max tow XLT ER had 1952. My 24 Flash max tow has 1875 (presumably due to the spray bed liner reducing weight).

Each 116T tire rated for 2600 pound load. Total is over 10,000 but you’re putting all of that in the bed (plus your weight in cab).
WATCH THOSE REAR TIRES. Monitor pressure that will indicate heat buildup from flexing.
Iā€˜d make two trips safely instead.

Generally you can get away with a fair amount of overload, but be careful. My previous truck (2003 Dodge Ram 2500) had a max payload of 2900 something pounds. Subtract a few hundred pounds of installed stuff, almost 300 pounds of driver, maybe a hundred pounds of gas, and it was down to 2200 or so pounds. The highest load I had in the bed was about 3600 pounds (a pallet of 595 bricks), but I only had to go a mile on flat ground. Drove slow and left a large amount of stopping distance.

sw engineering manager,
2235 lb is the maximum advertised payload rating of ALL Lightning configurations which is the SR / Pro trim without any add-ons.
1952 is the highest available payload I can find documented for an ER.
Rating also does not include the driver, passengers or any add-ons like bed-liner, bed cover, tailgate steps...
