Still on the original brake pads!? Impressive.

Nice to see that.

I love to see SOH of a 10 year old 250K Mustang and 20 year old too. If any of you time travelers have that info please do share. Most of these high mileage reports of Tesla and other EVs are for 2-3 year old cars. Not many people drive them that way.

not surprising if you use 1PD. I rarely have to touch the brakes.
Thankfully you don't have to worry about touching the brake either. With blended braking, those of us who enjoy 2PD get the same benefit.

One pedal driving is often quoted as maximizing regen but, as I understand it the brake pedal does the same until ether the low speed requires friction brakes or a high level of braking requires friction. I know that is the case in other EVs and PHEVs.

good to know. in any case I believe that a brake job in my Lightning's future is 100,000 or more miles in my future ...if ever!

just chiming in to say, im nearly certain if you drive like a traditional hybrid (coast more) - you're doing a ton of regen.

the brake coach can help transition if you've never driven a hybrid before too

but 1PD seems unintuitive/annoying to me

1pd is annoying to me as well but I hear over and over how great it is when you get used to it. I think Ford, like many others gave us, gas off, just enough regen to feel like an ICE car. I wish they could give us coast but there is something about direct drive and a permanent magnet motor that complicates that.

The interesting thing about David's story is that he told the team that he doesn't use 1PD. Seems like he is just gentle on the foot.

As far as wear and tear a light foot is surely a good thing but I'm not sure it is that much better in efficiency. A little for sure due to wind resistance arriving early but getting to an efficient cruise earlier compensates for the higher energy use in brisk acceleration. How much this matters, I'd be interested to know.

Stupid example:

My wife burned out brake pads on my GX460 in 30K miles. I put on new rotors and brakes and went 70K miles with negligible wear….my dad was adamant about brake use when I was learning to drive and she learned to drive in ATL. Light foot?

What's interesting to me is that if you do the math on this guy, he's charged the battery pack from empty to full around 1,000 times now and still has 92% battery health. That is impressive.

It's just scary for the average person to drive these beyond 100k miles because IF you need a battery pack replacement or electric motor replacement out of warranty that's going to destroy the savings account.
