One year into a two year lease. Love this truck, it’s my favorite vehicle of all time. The only complaint is the standard battery. It actually suits my everyday needs just fine, but I still have range anxiety. I drive 50 miles round trip to work every three days. I charge for free at work, but have the free charge station pro at my house just in case. I would like to use the truck for some road trips, but north on I25 is risky with the SR battery.

My plan is to buy a Flash this time next year. That will give me the ER battery and squash my only complaint. This is my first EV and that is why I leased. I wanted to check out an EV without fully committing. Am I crazy to buy one of these in a year? I leased this one really cheap and would obviously love to steal one next year.

Don't know where you are going, but PlugShare shows lots of charging on I-25 north...

I suspect you'll find that the available units quickly disappear in the next 60 days.

My recommendation: Buy low mile used, and add Extended warranty coverage. My only complaint of my new Lightning was the massive loss in value (definitely faster than ICE trucks). Luckily I got a buy back on my first Lightning in July, so got very lucky to not take the hit, I immediately scoured the market for a low miles used truck and could not be happier I did.

I appreciate that you are currently in a lease, but there are some smoking deals right now with incentives and 0% financing. In a year from now, possibly only used Lightnings will be available, which is good and bad... Likely no incentives and finance deals but the biggest chunk of the depreciation hit will make used prices favorable. Only you can make this decision. Choose wisely my friend....

Depreciation is not an issue if you plan on keeping your Lightning...

I would be buy a used ER Lariat right now. I had a SR and got the ER. The 80 extra miles makes a huge difference.

I am in the same boat. 2 year lease on a '24 Lariat. I would highly recommend getting the bigger battery pack

I wouldn't, not because of the type of vehicle, because I don't buy used vehicles period.

If you're one of those people who seem to be incapable of not buying/leasing a new car every couple of years, then yes, you'd be crazy to buy a new one. But catch a used one next year with low miles? Smart, imho.

You obviously won't be able to get a new one in a year, but buying a used one is a smart move if you like the truck and want to get an ER one at the end of your lease. Depreciation has been heavy on these trucks and you can get a great deal.

There are many cars out there that have poor resale not because the car itself is bad, but because it just doesn't compete well or is a niche vehicle with a limited pool of buyers. A friend of mine just got a ten-year-old Nissan Leaf for dirt cheap. 75 mile range. Great condition and low miles. It meets his needs and it's hard to beat what he paid for good reliable transportation. I've also noticed the 2024 Acura ZDX EV, discontinued after only one year, is getting hit hard with depreciation. Nothing really wrong with the car, it just didn't compete well. If you like it you can get a great car for a steal.

The same idea applies to the Lightning. If you like the truck you can get a great vehicle for a great price used. Although I don't think its discontinuation will be a main driver of depreciation. Discontinued or not the Lightning just depreciates a lot.

Everyone take advantage of the extended warranty that Ford is offering before is too late, it cost me $2400 for another 4 more years with my ‘24 Lariat ER. Zero APR installment.

Also consider the Premium Care Plus EV. And consider the lighting addition as well.
