Anyone buy an PremiumCare Extended Service Plan for Lightning, but get assigned an ICE version?

Long story short, purchase experience was horrible. Multiple screw-ups by dealer, the latest one discovered is that when I purchased the truck last April, finance office typed up the plan as a Standard PremiumCare Service Plan as opposed to PremiumCare Service Plan for Electric Vehicles.

At first I thought, well maybe the EV plans weren't available in April 2024, then I found out these plans have been available since at least October 2022, possibly earlier(note the date at bottom of brochure on the first page):

Any tips/adivce on how to handle the situation? Ford says I have to fix it through Dealer Finance office, Dealer says they have to work with Ford Premium Care rep, meanwhile I haven't heard an update from Finance office in over a day.

If that don't leave a bad taste in the mouth for that dealer. I bought the same ESP thru Flood Ford online and it specifies it's for an ev F 150. Only thing you can do is go thru whomever sold this to you and have them make it right because as it stands now you won't have any coverage.

The way mine reads is as follows.

1968 - USA 2025 NEW 120/36,000 PREMIUMCARE EV W/ROADSIDE

...I wouldn't even want to know what any of those 'plans' cost... your EV 'truck' requires little to no servicing, and you already have a 8year/100k mi warranty on the Battery/Electric PowerTrain/Electric battery equipment, etc.

These are simply overpriced 'prepaid' service plans, not an extended 'warranty', as many think...

Wrong. I use to work for Ford and have been in this industry for well over 40 years, I know what I'm buying and the Ford ESP is in fact an extended warranty(they also sell a separate service plan) for oil changes and things a smoker needs. For any of the trucks all it takes is one module to go out and the ESP is paid for, I bought in an extra 7 years warranty for the BTB warranty items such as anything unrelated to the HVB or it's system components.

My cost was only $1,150.00 because I chose the high option (enhanced rental, road service etc..), base option for the same coverage is $1,095. one ac compressor goes out, it's paid for, one radio, paid for etc... I stopped counting the amount of modules in my own truck around 15 or so. I'm sure there's more.

With all that said, I am ONLY talking about a genuine Ford ESP not those 3rd party extended warranties you can't get away from on tv, in email, snail mail etc, those warranty companies are worthless borderline criminal imho.

10 year, 36,000 miles ? You don’t plan on driving much?

Like, 3600 miles/yr.
So, 7 more years of warranty but no extra miles.
A truck that isn’t driven doesn’t likely break.

I am not sure of your concern, but when I bought a new truck and this is my experience, a used truck plan will be a little different, but the entire extended service plan is based on your VIN, which will define it for your Lightning Electric Vehicle.

The VIN on the Service Plan needs to matches the truck

There were choices for how many years and how many miles I wanted. Also additional cost for three additional coverage items: rental car, key service, and lighting coverage. If you paid for one level of service and your paperwork doesn't agree, that seems to be a direct issue to be addressed with the dealer you bought the coverage from.

My commute is 4 miles round trip some of which is shared with my motorcycle, it's a 2011 with just over 2600 miles on it lol. My other truck is a 2013 and only has a little over 30k miles on it so no I don't drive much and you'd be shocked how many modules will die on start up just from the inrush of current on a module that's got some age on it, doesn't matter how many miles are on it. Electronics can last a long time or just go out whenever, mileage isn't so much of a factor in my case as time is, that's why it is what it is.

Not driving a vehicle can be just as tough or worse on a vehicle than driving it. Here's a breakdown on cost with time/mileage choices for my particular truck and zip code. Pick your poison.

Diesel guys say the same thing. "Ah, these last forever." I bought the Ford ExtraCare ESP when I bought the truck at 81k miles. The warranty covered a several hundred dollar BCM repair, a $3,000 engine oil leak repair, and another smaller repair in the first two years I had the truck.

IF I decide to keep this Lightning at end of lease, a Ford ESP will 100% be purchased if possible.

I'd be somewhat surprised if the Ford system would allow the non-EV Premiumcare to be assigned to the VIN of an EV. It may be that despite what the form you got says you do indeed have the EV version.

I would reach out to Granger, they can look up the plan you have by your VIN and if for some reason it's not correct they can guide you through cancelling the one you have and buying the correct one from them (at a likely much cheaper price than your dealer). Even if you have the right coverage, you may find that you will save money by cancelling it and buying a new policy from them.

Sounds about as bad as my purchase. You didn’t by any chance buy from Ken Grody in Redlands, Ca?

I got the PremiumCare plan on my '18 F150. The sunroof module broke and it covered the repair. It would have cost more than I paid for the warranty. That and a couple other things (one being the cellular module) saved me money. And since I had a year left on the warranty when I sold the truck I got some money back. Of course the odds aren't in our favor, but I lucked out.

On my Lighting I got 10/100 coverage. Cost me $2,600 with the lighting coverage. It's just peace of mind knowing that if the sunroof breaks, a headlight goes out, the a/c quits, one of the electronic modules dies, etc. that I won't have to pay for it and it doesn't matter to me what it costs to repair. There's a lot on the truck that the 8/100 battery/powertrain warranty does not cover.

Yep and there’s a darn good chance that one or several of those parts will fail. Had my truck 4 months and it’s been in for two recalls so far. I didn’t buy the extended warranty at purchase so I’m sure I’m gonna get royally screwed when I do purchase it before the factory warranty expires. I can’t buy Graingers cuz I’m in Calif but I totally agree the extended warranty is needed.
