Anyone else have overall terrible fast charge speeds? My 25 lighting seems to top at 120Kw while fast charging. 90% of the time it charges around 50Kw. This is at chargers rated at 350Kw. My Tesla NEVER had this issue and would always charge fast AF. When I get my Tesla adapter will this be addressed or am I doomed to sit for 1.5 hours charging on road trips?

Assuming you looked up the chargers on PlugShare and they're working fine for others, the only reason for slow charging speeds would be a high state of charge, i.e. over 80%.

Tesla adapter isn't going to solve anything.

No I’m at 10% and it’s slow as hell. I meant going to the Tesla charge stations vs all the public charge stations found in the app.

Tesla SuperChargers won't go any faster than say an EA 350kW or a Pilot Flying J 350kW. If your battery is cold, it will charger slower until it warms up, usually 10 minutes or less into charging.
Check the charger in PlugShare as I said.

The only time I have charged at a SuperCharger when I started with a pretty low battery was plenty fast. Started at 25% and charged to 80% with an average charge rate of 151 KW and peak rate that I saw was 184 KW.
From what I recall having read here, the Lightning will max out at about 180 KW.

Watch this video . It explains how a Ford Lightning charges.

Considering the voltage of a Lightnings pack, you'll NEVER see 500KW

I suspect you're confusing KW with AMPS

This charge rate would be 0% to 100% charge on the 131kWh battery in about 15 minutes if my math skills are correct. Man, wouldn't that be nice.

The chargers you are using may be derated. The only way to really know whats going on is with an OBD adapter. You can see what the truck is requesting and what the charger is providing.

Gotcha! Appreciate all the input. Hopefully once I get the level 2 installed at home this won’t be an issue.

I've never seen anything slow like this, but it does make me wonder if maybe the other chargers were being used and it was splitting power?

So there was one other stall used of 4 so 2/4 total including me. Said 350Kw on the app I got 88 MAX. Not my truck because I did use another one 4/4 used including me with 350Kw and I charged at 180Kw 🤷‍♂️

500 amps, not 500kw. This was in a recent update that improved the charge speed slightly, allowing an increase from 450a to 500a, slightly reducing charge time. I think Tom tested this and it was about 5 minutes better on a 45 minute charge.

.

So, with charging there are a lot of nuances that don't always come across.

The first thing is pack voltage.

We have a "400 volt" pack, which means we will never come close to 350kw even on a 350kw chargers. In fact our trucks won't charge any faster on an EA 350kw chargers than they will on an EA 150kw charger, that's because 350kw is an "800v" thing and we don't have that.

Next, watch out for slow "fast" chargers. Shell (sometimes rebranded) is notorious for this, their chargers will only deliver 200a so depending on the voltage of the vehicle their speed can be pretty slow on a charger rated for higher. 200a is only 75kw on our trucks, on a charger that claims "180kw" (been there, done that).

Cold or hot batteries can hurt speed, but i have not heard mention of that being a big issue on these trucks (unless VERY cold).

Frankly, try different chargers

Lower soc will cause a derate, it'll start slowly at 10% but ramp up as you get higher. Temps will also play a factor.
Also, as said above, with a 400v output the rated speed is much lower. You'll max out at about 120-130kw with those units. Tesla can be fast, up in the 160s at least.
