That's the model I was on before upgrading to 5.0 and had the ping pong. Should I try that model on 5.0 and see if it's better or just jump to AJZ's suggestion of WD40?

Its the model I use and have no ping pong. Every vehicle ,and driver are different so try them all except tomb raider. That one is not good on fords.

I didn't consider the harness box itself going out. Now I'm gonna pop that thing open when I get back home and start probing around.

Okay, my new Comma harness has arrived, and even though I don't have the Lightning adapter yet, I've gone ahead and installed the harness and tried it with the USB cable that came with the new harness. It still doesn't work. I've gone ahead and tried eliminating points of failure again, and here's what I've found.
New harness with no USB plugged in = no truck errors
New harness + New USB = truck errors
New harness + New USB + Comma 3x = Truck errors and Canbus errors on Comma
New Harness + Old USB = no truck errors
New harness + Old USB + Comma 3x = Truck errors and Canbus errors on Comma

After inspecting the new, longer USB that came with the new harness, I've found a rather badly kinked spot, which could be causing the errors I'm seeing with the new cable. (pissed about that...) But even using the old shorter cable that seems not to throw errors without the comma plugged in, as soon as I plug in the comma, and even after waiting a while, the same old errors pop up on the truck and comma.
Other than waiting for the lightning adapter to come in, Ive tried all I can think of. im about ready to sell this damn comma and be done with it. At this point, it's a $1k paperweight.

What software are you running, and are you sure you're at the right plug, there are at least 4 that fit the harness.
Edit: Without the adapter you are going to get truck errors. Without the lightning adapter, if you plug the comma harness in and leave the USB unplugged you should get no errors on the truck, then you plug the comma in and turn on the truck you should get errors on the truck.

This is normal until you get the coupler.

Without the resistors,,"the adapter from tony" you will get errors.

Do you have the dock from @Ajzride? I can send you the dock integration version as a replacement so you dont have to use that male to male adapter.

Finally had time over the weekend to swap out the lightning adapter to the new one you sent. It was indeed the problem. Everything works perfectly now. Thank you so much for all of the help!

It has theh same chipset as the Comma3x, it's just a new small form factor. Which is nice in some ways, and not so much in others. Given all the cool stuff @tonesto7 stuck on the UI for us (radar overlay, hybrid battery status etc), you would lose all that with a tiny screen.

They also announced an external GPU which will work with the Comma3x as well. To me, that is the big announcement. Should allow the models to solve much further out.

It is my favorite, but my family hates it. Because now I know exactly how slow they are going when I start complaining.

I always have maximum follow distance set so it's extremely unnecessary to slam on the brakes when my lead car gets brake checked. Sure, they rapidly decelerated and the comma should slow but I don't want the follow distance adhered to so rigidly.

No, that is coming out of the model. It's the number one reason I don't use OP long and stick to Ford ACC.

Outside of the random brake checks for no apparent reason, I like the OP long over the stock Ford ACC on the Lightning. Ford ACC always seems to pull up right to the rear bumper of the lead car and slams on the brakes anytime a car merges in front of you or slows to make a turn
