Apologies if this has been answered previously, but forum search turned up bupkes and 120 pages is a lot to read to find an answer manually...

When you have a comma device and bluepilot (or similar), does that allow you to block the OEM BlueCruise driver monitoring camera (the one that is just the left of the big touchscreen) ?

I ask because that is the spot where I had in my previous vehicle (and would prefer to have again) my phone mounted. But if I have my phone as high up as I want, BC / CoPilot gets pissy with "watch the road" DIC messages, because that camera is blocked. Or does the comma system also use / need the BC camera working and not blocked?

I'm going to suggest a help for the 120 page manual issue: use notebookllm.google.com -- add the user manual, photos, notes, forum posts, as sources in a new "notebook". Then, ask questions at the dialogue prompt. it will search your sources and provide answers with page #'s for reference. I'm not an AI user, but I've used this tool for some other tech.

My question was about physically obstructing the OEM BC camera. Does the *pilot software care if the OEM BC camera is covered?
i tested this on my way to lunch. Covered the blue cruise panel completely with my hand while comma drove me. 3+ miles, zero complaints from the Ford or the Comma 4…then I gave up. ☺

So first of all, NotebookLLM is 100% an AI tool. Sorry if you were unaware of that.

An alternative to this, if you're willing to use the generalized language models, is to prompt them with a link, something like this:

"I'm using Comma AI https://docs.comma.ai/ specifically with my 202X F150 Lightning and https://github.com/BluePilotDev/bluepilot as recommended. Where is the setting to swap the driving mood? Please cite specific parts of the documentation."

Then mostly ignore the response and just go to the sources. It's basically like having an extra intelligent search engine. Plus this usage model allows you to interact with the LLM in a more controlled manner; just to find primary sources and judge them yourself.

And on that note, since the 120 pages can be pretty intimidating for anyone just buying a comma, maybe we could start a separate thread just for tips and tricks installing & using it, or get the first post in this thread edited to include the basic info that everyone should know before buying/installing a comma?

Even basics like:
The ICE F-150 has an encrypted CAN bus beginning the 2024 model year which prevents the comma from being used in those vehicles, but this does NOT apply to the Lightning. The comma is fully compatible*(see next point) with the 2024-25 F-150 lightning.
An additional USB adapter is required to use the Comma with an F-150 lightning, and it can be ordered at https:// . . .
When ordering the Comma 4, select 'Ford F-150 2021-23' as your vehicle to get the 'Ford Q4' harness which works with the lightning.
The recommended Openpilot fork for use in the Lightning is Bluepilot. More info about bluepilot is available at https:// . . .
Once bluepilot is intalled, here is a page with the most commonly recommended settings to configure for using bluepilot in a lightning - https:// . . .
Here is a page/post/video with good instructions for how to install the comma in an F-150/lightning - https:// . . .

(I don't have the URLs for those, I can dig through the thread to find some of them, but was writing this just as an example, not the actual text that should be posted.)
Welcome to the world of free open source software :)

His sentence was "I'm not an AI user, but" .. i think he covered the fact that he was aware of it's AI-ness :)

The comma does not care if you cover the bluecruise camera. However if you ever go somewhere and don't have the comma with you, the ford camera is going to nag you like crazy.

I have a friend who went full Tesla and asked me to help him sell his Comma3X. $550 includes shipping and one of my quick docks, but no Q4 harness. A lightning coupler is also included if you need it.

Hey everyone, a note on Lightning Coupler orders.

I recently learned that an order placed at the end of May never made it out the door. On my end it was marked as shipped, so it slipped past me completely, and the customer understandably left a negative review. That one's on me, and I'm making it right with them.

For anyone ordering from the BluePilot site: if you don't receive a tracking number within a week of ordering, please reach out to the email on your invoice. Orders generally ship within 3 days, so if a week goes by with no tracking, something's wrong and we need to know about it. We do our best to track every single order, but we're each a one-person operation and occasionally things fall through the cracks, packages get lost, an order gets marked shipped when it wasn't, etc. A quick email means we can catch it in days instead of weeks.

I'm trying to install the new BP 7.0 but it keeps failing to download. Can someone confirm my address is correct?
