actually numbers may not lie but they can create false impressions. the 1Q and even May increase in Lightnings is a good example. What happened last year? Ford issued a stop sale on Feb 4 because of the battery fire. Stop sale lasted until March 30th.

And attempts to highlight false impressions can themselves create false impressions. These are May 2024 numbers, and there was no stop sale in in place in May 2023.

These are good numbers. There's no reason to caveat or undermine them.

Maybe some of the increases are a result of the upfront $7500 tax credit at purchase effective Jan 2024, and the reductions in price for the unsold 2023 models?

Ford priced the Lightning when announced and got a lot of reservations, but by the time they were ready to sell, Ford had jacked the prices up over 40% and reportedly lost 90% of the reservations.

I was one of the cancellations.

But when the prices came down to below $50,000, and there was a $7500 tax credit up front, I jumped on it.

It is econ 101 after all. Supply-demand-price inter-dependency.

There was a huge demand when Tesla announced the Cybertruck, and I guess Ford took note of that and beat them to market.

But too high a price is a demand killer.

Another factor maybe be the Inflation Reduction Act and all the commercial chargers popping up left and right creating the beginnings of robust infrastructure to support EVs.

Technically not a reduction in price, but additional Ford incentives, but yes, the out the door price was substantially cheaper for some models. (namely XLT ER) in Q1 2024 and I would say the primary reason for the increase in sales

There are 6 NEVI / IRA chargers currently operating in the entire country. I dont think that justifies spiking the football for Uncle Sam on this one! lol.

The Ford F-150 Lightning was once the proud post child for the Blue Oval’s major push toward electrification. ~99% 2023's. I dont even think anyone that participates on this forum has a 2024.

There was a stop shipment from 2/9 to 4/16 for a "new quality check process". Knowing how painful and slow the transportation can be... a good amount of those that have shipped are probably scattered throughout rail yards across the country.

This could be an indication that the Lightning is reaching main stream. Even though the Lightning sales are up, F-series sales are down and the Lightning accounts for 5% of F-series sales. I think that a lot of people who are able to look beyond their inbred EV stereotypes are starting to see the Lightning as a viable alternative to the ICE F-series.

Knowing how painful and slow the transportation can be... a good amount of those that have shipped are probably scattered throughout rail yards across the country.
