I will be Devil's Advocate here, show me a current automotive manufacturer who would do exactly what you're asking. I don't believe one exists. You're in a bad situation for sure, and I feel for you with kiddos, but large publicly traded corporations don't care.

Mitigate your risks the best you can and minimize your out of pocket costs but neither is going to be zero. Be realistic about how to fix this situation timely and evaluate your sale options when you're back home.

Yea I would understand that, but it doesn't cover the fact they said they would do it. Then they reneged on that promise. And again the overall poor communication and lack of callbacks. That is absolutely unacceptable.

Last - with the sheer # of issues with the vehicle... that goes to the quality.

If the quality was an issue, but the customer relations went above and beyond maybe its ok. Or if the quality was excellent but poor customer relations, again ok. In this case it is bad quality + customer relations.

I am going to mitigate my risk. I am going to get rid of this POS, and never buy a ford again.

Ford's quality control is awful and their customer service sucks. I am an all Ford household because I think their products are compelling but the truck is they built relatively unreliable vehicles and if you need to deal with Ford custom service there's a pretty high chance you'll be disappointed.

The crazy thing is, these issues are costing Ford profit and the market is punishing them for it. Their market capitalization is the same as it was 30 years ago, which is as far back as I looked. If they could make reliable vehicles and solve issues with empathy they could probably grow. As it is, they are a middling auto-maker who would be destined for a takeover if the family didn't still have a controlling interest.

Doesn't help your situation, but this the first report of the hvb junction failure in a Lightning. Mach-E, yes, but not int a Lightning. If the error codes go back that far, then that is suspicious that it would show up as a used vehicle.

There are reports weekly of this error or that failure in this forum and elsewhere, but the people having issues are far far more likely to be here to share their situation, just as you are. Not blaming them, just the way it is. That said, there are those trucks that seemed to have had drunk monleys working on the assemble line. Maybe you can get a repair history from Ford, and look into its history via Carfax or similar. However there is not absolute way to determine if you got the drunkonkey assemble.

Perhaps a extended warranty would be appropriate for your concerns.

Hope you get things resolved in as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I had 1,000 miles on my Lariat ER and never had a problem... until it literally died. Then when I looked into it, it had a lot of problems that weren't being reported to me. The app chooses to filter what alerts it sends.

UPDATE: @Ford Motor Company

Part received and local dealership is now starting the repair. The Ford BEV has continued to be a complete nightmare. The original agent, who apparently is 'assigned to my case', has been non responsive since 6/28 when I first contacted them. All other agents are indicating I need to work through her, since she was initially assigned my case.

I have spoken to now 3 other agents. I made sure to have the agent on the phone with the dealership performing repairs, as I wanted to ensure Ford would be handling the transfer of the vehicle back to me when completed. She clearly indicated this was the case. This was a determining factor for having the vehicle repaired 500 miles from my house.

Never received that in writing (after request), so I had to call again and ask for it in writing.... trust issues. That agent flat out said "No that isn't available for you". I told her to call her supervisor - they said no, they can have a supervisor call back. Then I received an email from her saying exactly this:

" [Sat - July 5th 2025] I hope this message finds you well.

As per the notes from July 2nd, I am writing to inform you that we can proceed with the vehicle transportation if the necessary programs are available. I have also submitted a request for a supervisor to contact you on Monday (7/7). Additionally, I have sent an email to the agent and her supervisor to ensure all parties are informed."

I emailed back to say what does "if the necessary programs are available" mean. No response, and still no response or call from anyone from Ford BEV.

So I called today. Got the same sob story, and this agent is now indicated "no programs are available" for transport of my vehicle or for reimbursement of those costs. So they want me to now eat the cost to ship the vehicle. I asked to speak with a supervisor/manager and was told "I can put in a request to have a manager reach back out to you in 2 business days".

I want to say this as clearly as possible. Ford is a fucking joke. I am getting rid of this POS vehicle and never buying or touching another Ford product. Completely unacceptable.

Unreliable vehicle coupled with incompetent customer service, while under warranty, is a nightmare that I just do not want to be a part of. Let alone pay a premium for.

FWIW, IMHO I believe the root of most of Ford's problems is the accountants have too much control. The accountants focus is on max profits, and shareholders, and only the short term Rather than listening to engineers, the accountants push for the absolute lowest cost components. Result is components with hidden flaws, lack of QC, designs not tested enough etc etc. Most of the consistent issues seem to be due to just a few suppliers. You skimp on thousands of parts for to scrap every penny, some are bound to fail due to lack of safety factor being built into the part.

IMHO, the focus on short term absolute profit/share price is a major problem. Handicapping American companies in the longer term by preventing them from investing as much in R&D as is really needed. same thing appears to have happened at Boeing.

I think you can add Tesla to the list. They have not innovated outside of the CT for many years, and even that seems pretty half finished and not nearly what was promised. Then the updates on X and S non-existent. Pretty minor on the 3 and Y, Roadster is vaporware even though some bought it outright from the start. Then the best batteries are the same old Panasonic batteries that haven't been improved for many years.

I'm sure a lot depends on the dealership personnel one is dealing with.
If they care about your future business coming their way, they treat you better.

There are always a couple of competing things going on in a human brain and they are integrity vs greed.

That said, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Weigh the costs of dumping the "POS" truck vs the costs of coping with the wait for the warranty repair, etc.

It should be a calculated decision, not an emotional one.
When emotions take over, rational thinking shuts down.

There a lemon laws and buy backs if the truck becomes a repeat offender or Ford can't fix it.

Buying a used car or truck is always a gamble.
"There is always a reason the first owner unloaded it and the salesperson is discounting it" is the thought I keep in mind when considering such a purchase. Sometimes you are buying someone else's headache.

Seems like that might be what happened to you here.

If you had bought it from a private seller, you'd be SOOL trying to get them to make it right.
At least Ford is standing behind the warranty and will endeavor to fix the problem.
