And no it's not a personal problem!

Last night my wife's friend was visiting and said she found the below item sitting in the middle of my driveway, and I'm trying to figure out the origin.

Possible sources:

1 - My F150 Lightning, which had the tires replaced two days prior, but I can't think of anywhere near the wheels were the below would go. I guess it could be elsewhere from the truck but the tires are the only things that were recently worked on.
2 - My wife's car, which is only 6 weeks old, so I guess it's possible that something wasn't assembled properly and shook off, just can't think of what.
3 - My wife's friend's car, which is 10 years old and is a jalopy, but she only pulled into the driveway once and parked and she then found it while walking in.
4 - A vehicle of a delivery driver, of which we've had several over the past week due to Christmas shopping orders, etc.

So if someone recognizes this, I can check the appropriate vehicle (if it is indeed one of ours) to see if I see one missing. I added the K-cup to the last pic to show some scale to help show the actual size.

Thanks for your expertise!

To me it looks like its for plumbing, like the nut on a under sink shut off valve or toilet shut off valve..

I'd bet all my pocket lint on it.

Thanks all! I knew I'd seen something like that in the past, just couldn't remember where.

Haven't had any plumbing work done at all lately, but will walk around and double-check the valves behind the toilets and under the sinks.

Once installed they become permanently affixed to the line. This isn’t from anywhere in your house. It either fell off a plumber’s truck and bounced into your driveway or some kid found it and tossed it your way. Don’t worry about it.

Yeah you’d know really quickly if it came out of your house. water would be rushing out. It holds the water line on.

How would the nut get from inside a bathroom / sink area to your driveway?

"The case of the walking nut", a CNN exclusive.

Yeah that's a mystery as I live on a gravel road in a rural area with only two houses further down the road than mine before it dead-ends, and neither of those owners are doing any work on their houses to my knowledge.

We did have someone come by in September for annual checkup of the water softener system, which is the closest thing to any plumber being around... and I don't think I would have missed it sitting on the driveway for that long.

Incidentally, I clicked on this thread because fasteners falling off Teslas can be a serious issue. The same recall that applied to the Model 3 suspension falling apart should also apply to Model Y. At least I don't have to worry about such things with my Ford.

Not from your truck. Not from in your house. Looks oily. I vote for a fitting on the HST of a zero turn mower. Fell off your landscaper's trailer.
Well I'm the landscaper, but I do have a riding mower with HST, I had it in the shop this summer as the front wheel fell off and had to get wheel bearing replaced and they also replaced the deck belt, but didn't do anything with the HST to my knowledge. But the mower has run for 8 seasons so maybe something broke there. I put it away for the winter about 6 weeks ago, will have to go take a look at it to see if I notice anything there. Thanks!

I vote for compression fitting nut like the majority of the responses.

Now they DO have automotive applications for things like brake lines and fuel lines, but that one looks like it's chromed which points more towards a household water line use where it might be visible if one looked for it - inside a cabinet under a sink, or at a toilet (or bidet if you're French) behind the bowl under the tank in the area where the water line shut off is located.

It seems to show some tool marks, like it has seen some use, or else it was just cheaply made.

If it had come off a brake line, there'd likely be a puddle of brake fluid to go with it, and it would not likely be chromed.

Could have been from a bicycle, but unlikely.

You would be surprised at the amount of debris that falls off junk & reclamation trucks!!!

We're not far from a scrap yard, the intersection where big & small trucks & trailers pass through hundreds of times a day to reach that yard drop all kinds of stuff messing up the road.

So much for cover your load rules................

The scrap yard brings up a magnetic sweeper in the middle of the night to clean up the debris the collects at least once a week.

I dunno, my truck had a warranty claim on it before I even bought it, brand new, come to find out there was some sort of recall or dealer hold on some suspension bolt as they were the only thing listed on the warranty report. 25ym Flash
