I went to some open land that we have access to and it’s about 50acres long. Trying to get supplies across to the other side and I noticed these tall weeds.

They’re slightly prickly, but you can drive over them easily. Are they safe to drive across slowly? Is there any risk of damaging something important underneath the vehicle? Coolant lines/batteries/etc.

There is a non-zero risk. Maybe some paint scratching. Seems like brush and sticks find their way into the most unlikely of key places, but probably not going to be anything major.

It’s a truck….that had better not be a problem. I’ve driven through similar many times on our farm. Turn off the sensors unless you want constant alerts!

This is what it’s called…

I read a horror story (lookup Stick Damaged F150 Lightning) from another user about a stick damaging the coolant line…so I’m just wondering if that’s a possibility driving over this? Or if I would know if I damaged something?

I'm driving through corn and sunflower stalks every day and don't worry too much about it.
One suggestion though is don't back up. Those stalks will turn into punji sticks and rip into any wires or lines they can find.

Just make sure when backing up there are no tree stumps you don’t see that may catch the air dam. It does not like to go backwards.

This is another good reason to pop on the aftermarket hexagon grille onto the front cooler opening... it's cheap insurance to protect stuff from gathering on top of the very inclined radiator and it works well and looks OEM. Described in other threads here, easy to locate via the SEARCH function.

Agree. There is good reason to install the aftermarket grid to protect the front cooler. It’s inexpensive and easy to install and should have been part of the truck from the factory.

Right after I got my truck, I took it on a long road trip to North Dakota to go pheasant hunting. Once in ND, I drove it through all sorts of cut field stubble like canola, soybean, and some cut corn stalks. Most of the stubble rubbed the underneath like a scrub brush. I think the canola stubble was the most brittle, almost like little bamboo shoots. As far as I know, everything has survived as I have put 18,000 miles on since then.

I did get lots of dust and debris behind the plastic panels and under the frunk as well as on the top side of the skid plates of the motors. A battery powered leaf blower worked great to clean everything out when I got home. I am going to look into the grill cover referenced above, as I did get some stubble into there and had to reach in and get it off of the radiator.

YMMV... There is no guarantee that you won't damage anything, but if that thistle is soft and you drive in one direction over it, you will probably be okay.

There’s always a risk. But that field seems pretty low-risk.

@21st Century Truck why don't you search for it since you feel it is an easy search, since I like @trev5150 I can't find anything with about a dozen different search words and phrases.

I would not drive through a field with Thistle. They are can be nasty sharp. I occasionally remove them from the field in my remote cabin. I wear welder leather gloves when handling them to keep from getting cut up.

With my Platinum with colored bumpers I can easily see them getting very scratched up. I would be worried about the under carriage.
