Lightning Software Updates using FDRS

No - no indications at all. Is it possible that I missed it? Or does it stay on the screen?

Also, I just logged into Ford Service Info and see that the same GWM update I'm attempting has started OTA on 2/27/25. It shows Update Status VIL Generation.

When I look at the Software Updates screen on the truck's screen, it shows the GWM Update with status Not Completed.

Would the truck inhibit USB updates while it has an OTA update in progress?

Now it's been about an hour.

If it's been there that long, then it didn't kick off. If you have forscan, try rebooting the GWM and try the update again.

Thanks. I’ve aborted the process. How long does it take the GWM update to process once the USB drive is inserted?

@Kansan The OTA for the GWM was canceled on the server side, so it will not come in OTA. The OTA was sent to your truck on 2/27, the truck pinged the server back, but the files were never downloaded and the OTA was canceled due to "high priority job" (whatever that means).

The GWM may be hung up in a funky state. If the GWM reboot with FORScan does not work, pull the negative cable from your 12v battery for 20 minutes and try again.

The USB update should say "USB Indexing" on the top left of the screen within a minute of you inserting it. For the update to actually kick off, it can take 2-15 minutes before the message saying "USB update in progress" pops up on the screen.

If the USB method fails after the battery pull, you select "no" in FDRS telling it the update did not go through and it should give you the option to CAN the update through. The CAN process will take a while, though. At least an hour. I have never had to CAN a GWM update before, so not sure how long it'll take.

After rebooting the GWM, the usb was recognized right away and programmed in just a few minutes.

I’ll bet this is that same gateway update that came out about three months ago for many of us. We all had to disconnect the 12V battery to get it to work.

2 Mar 25 and there's a complete set of powertrain updates out for my '22 Lariat ER today. I was holding off updating the door modules that came out last week until something more substantive came along. I guess this is it.

I checked two '23 models and they don't have these updates.
I checked two '24 models but they do have them.

Maybe they're still working on the validation for the '23 model versions (that's happened before with other updates).

Boo! Usually wait to see when you get new updates in FDRS as whenever you see them, I have seen them for my truck. Not today, not so lucky. I had the door updates when you got them so was hoping for the powertrain updates, hopefully they will show up soon. I have a year license anyways so no biggie I just got excited this morning.

Should add I have a 23 MY, so that is probably why but still I want new updates! I know I have an addiction.

I installed all of these updates this morning . Very quick for so many updates at just under a half hour , so you will be staying in your vehicle during the process . No issues but the updates draw a lot of amps. I attempted to the updates out of order by clicking the BECM update first which then failed . I started again from the ABS update and they all installed in order without issue . Afterwards, I tried to run the RFA and ACM updates again to get them to clear and of course they did not clear . Will see if my quarter mile time improves after the update.

It can. GWM can be the catalyst for a new APIM or TCU update to release, but not always the case.

It did not for me, but you never know as your mileage may vary is what I have learned with FDRS.

I didn't get a chance to post the followup to my 2 March powertrain and doors update due to issues with my account that started on the 3rd and were only resolved yesterday.

Here's how that went:

The powertrain script started at 2:39 when I selected the PCM and hit "Run". Right side column is how long each module took according to FDRS.

I saw folks posting about the OTA gateway update (ECG-25.2.5.7.1), and even though it is in my OTA queue right now, it has not started downloading yet...and had what looked like a scheduled install date of the 13th of March for my truck. So I just did it with FDRS instead yesterday.
