So yesterday driving on Beltway 8 north side (H town peeps would know what I'm talking about), I got caught in a really bad rain and lightning storm. A few hit 0.1 miles from the truck (wife was looking at interactive weather map) and each time the center screen went from Android Auto to surround camera view for 2 seconds and back to Android Auto. Makes me a little nervous if this could cause electrical issues down the line as being an EV, it's a death sentence if the electricals goes to hell. Anyone else experience something like this during a storm?

TIA!

Never. Has nothing to do with the storm.

Strange then. It only happened right after the lightning strikes (2x that close). Truck ran fine other than that. OK, so it'll be fine. Thank you!

Sorry, I missed that they were strikes, that close. I saw the lightning storm.

So it jumped from Android Auto to the camera view in Sync, and then back again. I would suggest it was the wireless connection with AA breaking.

you're worried about your 12v system, not the 'big' HV Battery Pack...

It might be worth noting that modern ICE vehicles depend just as completely on electronics as EVs do; a serious electrical failure would equally stop either one.

I think @RickLightning's suggestion of strong electrical interference breaking Android Auto's wireless connection is very likely right. (Good thinking!) My AA tends to lose connection for no apparent reason sometimes, and the EMP from a nearby lightning strike is a pretty good reason.

I don't do wireless AA. I have a VPN running filtering out spam and ads so I have to go hardwired. Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier too. I'm a bit on the old school paranoia type (doing network security in the past didn't help) so wireless is fine except when it is not (POE camera and more holes than Swiss cheese in my soffit drives the wife nuts).

The dealership I bought it from was nice enough not to charge me to replace the 12V prior to delivery though it's not a guarantee it won't puke on me at a moments notice.

True... wife wants a new RX. After reading what Toyota is up to, she's leaning more toward an older one. I am regretting I sold my Gen 2 Sport Trac V8.

That's what I was thinking hence this thread. Got me a little worried where a close lightning strike can cause such anomalies. Wouldn't want to wake up one day after a thunderstorm to a dead truck.

I agree the ultrasonic sensors were disturbed by the shock wave of the thunderclap. That triggered the 360 view to come up momentarily. I wouldn't worry about the potential that there was any damage to any of the electronics.

Interesting theory. You could test that with a gun shot. Magnum rifle, 12 ga, etc. Something loud.

Also, I'm pretty sure those sensors are ultrasonic. So a.close strike is going to fill the air with all sound frequencys, so that could have played a part as well. Settings off the ultrasonic proximity sensors.
