I'm old, but when I close the door and hit the bottom two keys, it takes only about 1.5 seconds or less to lock the door.
Yeah I agree. I realize that other modern vehicles have walk-away lock, but as a long time Ford guy, the 7/8, 9/0 button press is like second nature and it's so easy to do.

And sidenote, personally I think that the keyless entry keypad is one of Ford's best features, even today.

Yes, me too for the 7/8 , 9/0 press. I do it automatically on my 2001 F150 Supercrew Lariat. Waiting patiently for my Lightning ER XLT.

Hello all!

I am going crazy trying to find the lock on walk away settings. I have gone to the truck a few times now to grab things and realized I was able to get in without the key. At first I thought the key was just close and unlocking, but now I'm realizing it's not locking when I walk away.

I didn't find anything here, so I went through the Gen 14 F150 forum and found a thread about this and they said there is no lock on walk away.

This cannot be true with the Lightning? I guess it has to be true as I cannot find it anywhere in the settings, but this is such a standard, critical feature I've had on cars for a while now and didn't realize it was a common feature. And I guess I haven't locked my truck in a month....lol

I assume PAAK will have this ability though, right?

Please tell me I am missing something :)

Lariat trim as fyi.
I have a 2023 XLT with the 312A option package. Ford told me that there is no auto lock available and that the PAAK feature on my Android phone is not available with the 312A package only the 311A package. I was told it will be available on the 2024 MODELS. I am sure after some vehicle thefts and subsequent lawsuits Ford will send out an update.

What's 9/0? I usually just do 7/8, or press the lock icon on the handle.

The buttons on the vehicle are:

1/2
3/4
5/6
7/8
9/0

To lock the vehicle, you need to push the last two buttons, so 7 and 9, 7 and 0, 8 and 9, or 8 and 0, however you want to look at it.

Pushing the 7/8 button by itself isn't locking anything.

There is no auto lock option on any Ford vehicle except when you put it in gear and drive.

There is a WALK AWAY lock option on some Ford vehicles that when your FOB, or PaaK gets far enough away it locks, OR it locks when it times out (2 minutes). The Mach-E has this. The truck doesn't YET.

If you don't have PaaK, you never will. So WHEN Walk Away lock is turned on someday, you will need the fob to use it UNLESS they also put in the 2 minute default.

I think they meant to tell you PAAK was only available on the 511A, not 311A.
PAAK has never been available for the XLT (311 or 312). For 2022 and 2023 PAAK was standard on the Lariat 511A and optional on the Lariat 510A. For 2024 it is standard on all Lariats, but again N/A on the XLT or new Flash according to 2024 Order Guide.

Ford is confused because that is what they told me. I appreciate the clarification.

As for the walk-away lock, I developed a work-around that has worked well for over a year now. It's for iOS though (see post 41 above for link). I think someone also developed an Android version but I couldn't find it with a quick search.

Just checking but you do know thathou don't need to use your key fob right? F150's version of what you're asking for is just to touch the door handle as you leave. As long as you have your key fob on you, all the doors will lock.
Not necessarily. I do use the lock please button on the outside of the handle but half the time it doesn't take. I have to touch 2 to 3 times to get it to activate. It's almost simpler to pull the Fob out of my pocket and lock it that way, or as I've just learned use the bottom 2 buttons on the door. I learn something new all the time on this forum.

The absolute simplest thing is to press the lock button on the armrest before closing the door. I’ve been doing that ever since I got my first F150 with power door locks (2000 model).

Yeah, I did that with my 03, but got in the habit of the handle button with my wife’s car.

I get you’re upset but Hyundai and Kia doesn’t seem to care and it hasn’t affected their ability to continue selling cars. And they’re selling cars without immobilizers, which I’d argue is worse than selling a truck without PAAK and auto lock.

I get that Ford isn’t Hyundai but lawsuits and thefts won’t necessarily have an impact.

Ford is able to have the gear lever move to Park when you get out…so seems like an obvious solution. Just have the gear lever move to Drive when you walk away.

Problem solved.

I am not up set, but puzzled why Fords engineering depart would not incorporate such a simple convient option. With regards lawsuits, most companies will make changes only after they are sued, thus avoiding bad publicity.
