1 year owner of a 23 Lightning and still loving it. Recently moved off grid and the 6.5K charging rate on 240 is hitting me hard with only a 7KW inverter. In the mean time I'm using the 120V option and it works but I wish I could charge at 3KW. Hence my question, what is the best aftermarket charger that gives me the ability to control my charging rate?

I thought most had this capability...in my experience, the Grizzl-e can be hard-pinned to voltage while the Teslas are a software switch.

Here's an image from Grizzl-e

Here's the settings from Tesla wall connector (website showing settings)

ChargePoint Home Flex lets you set the amperage for the charger. You set it to the circuit max (so 40 Amp for a 50 amp circuit breaker) when doing the install, and after that you can change the amperage in 1 Amp increments in the app at any time. I usually have mine set to 30 Amps in the summer since it gets pretty hot.

Edit: GarageMahal made a good update. For my ChargePoint Home Flex the lowest Amperage I can set is 8 Amps.

I love my Emporia and use the app to change the charge rate regularly. By default I keep it at 20 amps but dial it up any time I need juice in a hurry.

Edit: I just confirmed that the lowest setting is 6A (at 220v).

+1 for Emporia. The app makes it super simple to change the charge rate in 1-amp increments from 6-48 amps. You can even change it while charging if you need to.

Amps = Watts/Volts so 3kW (3000W) would be about 12-13 amps @ 240 volts.

And FordPass notices the charge rate change and adjusts the end time estimate.

Make an adapter to power the Ford Mobile Charger’s 120V dongle with 240V. That will charge at 12A, 240V, or about 2.8 KW.

Disclaimer: don’t attempt unless you know what you’re doing. If anything goes south, it’s your responsibility.

Ideally what you would want is a charger that can adapt automatically to your other loads/current solar output. I feel others on here have devised such a system.

I have a few cheap ones from amazon that work great, you push a button to adjust amperage. They all work the same so just pick the cheapest you can find.

Emporia also makes products specifically for this purpose but I have not used them myself. Looks like the "Emporia Pro" might be exactly this.

You should be able to control the L2 charge rate with the on screen Ford App. Tesla does. With Tesla you can adjust it down in 1 amp increments.

Thanks for the suggestions. It would great if Ford let you control your charging rate along with many other things like a solid app.

You can with the 2025 MY, hopefully they send the updates for lower model years to do so as well.

Be careful with the cheap online charger purchase. You are dealing with a lot of money (vehicle, home or garage).
