I agree with the assessment that there are far too many ways that rodents can get in and with an EV and all the wiring that can be a real problem. The PPOB wiring, the charge port wiring are two places that are very vulnerable to gnawing. The PPOB wiring is also vulnerable to road debris or tire blow-out damage.

Critter Ridder worked for me after some rodents chewed up my 2001 Ranger fuel pump and small hoses that attach thereto, during COVID lock down didn't drive it much. Never had a problem with them for 18 years until then.

We have foxes and house cats that roam around but mice reproduce faster than they can be eaten I guess.

I spray under the bed, wheel wells, and inside the battery compartment of my Lightning with Critter Ridder - so far so good.

I also put a mesh over the front opening like others did. Bought $15 of mesh on Amazon and cut it myself to fit - 21-1/2" x 8" more or less is the size, and use some 5-8" cable ties to hold it in place.

I am aware that it is a problem with all vehicles, and homes. But the fact that mice are getting in soon after I brought it home makes it seem like they didn't even try. I have a camper and have sealed that up and not seen a mouse for a while, so I know it's possible to do. As well, a house is quite a lot different (larger) than a personal vehicle.

They had heard you were bringing a new vehicle home, probably waiting for anew party spot.

Lots of promotion of peppermint. Smells good to us I suppose. But I have much better success with capsaicin-based products. Or just grown your own hot peppers, dehydrate and put in a container with holes in the lid.

You know, I've always heard that rodents didn't like capsaicin. However, some time back, we uncovered our grill that we hadn't used in a while. We found the remnants of a bunch of tabasco peppers I was growing. This plant was about 3 years old and pretty much a shrub at this point. It would put out probably 40 peppers a week, so I never noticed anything going on. I assumed it was a rat/mouse, as I didn't think a squirrel could fit underneath the cover. However, my wife just reminded me that she actually SAW a squirrel pulling them off my plant in our garden. So, did I have a Cajun squirrel here?

You have to ramp up the Scofield. Try ghost peppers next time.

Rodents are an issue with ALL cars. Lots of threads and advice on here. You'll never be able to "seal it up", just like you can never rodent proof a house. So yes, it's on us to be proactive because rodent damage is not a manufacturing defect that a warranty will cover. Your comprehensive insurance may cover it financially, minus your deductible, check with your insurance.

Lot's of different remedies, but consensus seems to be regular application of peppermint spray in the places of likely entry under the truck.

It is possible to block all entries to a house with welded wire mesh, especially if you don't have an unconditioned attic or crawl space, but a car is basically impossible because of all the moving parts.

I was thinking about doing a DIY version, but the amount of labor involved makes me think I should just buy the kit. Rodents have eaten a few wires and my windshield washer fluid hose. And what I have is probably woodrats (aka trade rats, packrats, or field rats) and those guys like to use strongly scented herbs, like bay leaves, to repel fleas from their nests. They seem not to mind the scent of mint.

There's no such thing as keeping rodents out of vehicles that are parked outdoors. How would you expect them to try to do it in some way that would delay the rodents getting in?

I understand being frustrated to get damage that isn't covered by warranty when the truck is new, but warranties cover defects, not damage from hail, people keying your paint, or rodents eating your wiring. I'd guess it's covered by comprehensive insurance, if the damage is more than your deductible, but they may jack up your rates if you make a claim.

Imagining that the manufacturer is responsible for not keeping rodents out. It's like expecting a warranty to cover the damage if someone runs a red light and t-bones your truck.

That seems to be in response to me. I did think it bizarre that you respect manufacturers to magically prevent rodents from getting in your truck or to pay for rodent damage that isn't their fault.

But I also offered what I believe are the two best solutions although neither of them is likely cheap.
1-park indoors
2-use an electrified repellent mat.
You can also try mint oil or other smelly compounds, as others have suggested, but my rodents seem to like mint.

I have at least 6 mousetraps surrounding the truck in a garage at all times baited with peanut butter.
