DOA when I see up to 250 miles range. 300 needs to be the absolute lowest end range for new EVs imo.
That's the argument my mom made when ridiculing my Lightning purchase.
My response was, "I'm not retired, I don't work for door dash or uber, so how often do you think I need to drive 200+ miles in a day each year?" Needless to say, the conversation went sideways from there. But I still stand by my response.

250 miles of advertised range, means 175 during winter. Not good.

Also the pricing is a joke.

Also an EV is a terrible off-road vehicle. There are no level 3 chargers built into trees as far as I'm aware.

I'm a Jeep guy. Just brought home another new one Saturday actually. But the Recon isn't going to sell well unless they put huge cash on the hood and do special financing.

I find the 'need' for a minimum of "300+" miles of battery range laughable:

I have over 62,000 miles in just over 3 years with my "PRO SR" 240mi Lightning, and have NEVER ran out of 'gas', and have NEVER found myself 'without' charging options, and have NEVER had any issue TOWING OUR 3,800lb CAMPER more than 1/2 of those overall miles... we have gone ANYWHERE WE WANTED to ANYTIME we wanted to.... I'm actually the one laughing.

I haven't pumped a single drip of 'gas' in well over 5 years, either... and don't plan to ever again.


I like the idea of the Jeep EV, the "RECON", as I had the brand new Jeep JK 4-Door Wrangler when it first came out in 2007, and loved the idea of it becoming an 'EV' option in the future... the Wrangler PHEV is an option, but, in the end, it still is a 'gas' vehicle, unfortunately.
I also like the idea of the SLATE 'truck', and the SCOUT truck, but, we'll have to see how all of these actually come to market. It looks like the RAM EV is already out.

Glad you guys made the limitation of short range work. Sub 300 mile range for EVs coming out new in 2025 is still a DOA signifier, especially for an off-road focused vehicle.

High-end pricing, only 400V architecture, and low-end range. Not a great idea. If you are going to off road with this then Jeep needs to install DCFC at all trailheads.

Yeah lower range and poor charging is meh. I go to my parents at least every other weekend which is 120 miles. My ER takes about 40% of the battery if I take the backway or about 50% on the interstate in good weather. I like that i don't have to full charge before and have some wiggle room if I hit a head wind or cold weather. Potentially have to stop to charge even for 10min would get annoying fast.

Yep because you know if they claim 250, real world usage will be 150-180.

looks good to me...range is ok for around town. Seems like a good option for an suv. I have a model y and if I get the itch to get something else I would give this a look and/or the Rivian R2.

Interesting that none of the marketing material says anything about getting groceries in this SUV. How much of an approach angle do you need at Trader Joe's?

Don't get me wrong, I like an SUV for visibility. But if you are going to build/market an off-road vehicle then it best have range to get you where you want to go and back again. Here in Oregon we do not always have EV infrastructure in place to facilitate electric over landing.

And, the R2 will have considerably better range and starts $20k less, per the marketing material. What exactly is Jeep thinking here?

Not sure I understand the "for an off-road focused vehicle" part. Who is traveling 100+ miles off-road regularly where this would come up? Most off-roading is low speed and following a trail that is maybe a loop of 20 miles or so.

Obviously not the case if overlanding, but this seems a bit small for sleeping in.

I bet at low off-roading speeds you will see quite a bit better than 250 miles even, low speed and EVs are a great match.

I think for something you aren't towing with the range is fine. Most experienced EV owners will say the same. But the problem is almost every non-EV owner I talk to thinks that 300 miles is even a death sentence, even if their Honda CRV only goes 360 miles on a tank of gas.

Bridging that gap of understanding that range is rarely an actual issue when you charge at night and aren't making dedicated stops every other week is extremely difficult. I think many won't budge until they get their 500 mile EV. Then when they own if for two years and find that they only ever use maybe 10% battery most of the year will finally realize it was silly to be so worried about it.

I get better mileage, (more miles per fill up/charge) from my Flash than I do my XLT with a 5.0 (custom tuned) and off road ready so It boggles my mind when people moan and groan about more range. If people would take a map and draw a 100 mile radius around their home, they would probably have a different opinion.
