Phone As A Key VERY Unreliable!

Is anyone else having problems with PAAK? Mine works intermittently at best. I was having to use the touch pad to get in and enter passcode to start so often that I started carrying my key fob!

PaaK works great for me with a Samsung S24. The same phone is intermittent with my wife's Navigator. Her S21 works so poorly that she doesn't use it.

What phone are you using?

Define unreliable? I use an iphone and there is a delay sometimes when opening the door, it can take up to say 20-30 seconds for the phone to get recognized but it has never failed to work.

The update with Walk Away Lock really improved my reliability.

If you're in an area w/ low cell service or between cell/wifi - it challenges iphones typically.

PAAK doesn’t need cell or WiFi. Communication is direct between the phone and vehicle.

...which is why I like my fob, on the Mach E and now on the Lightning. Plus, it has the skeleton key useful for the spare wheel, the glove box and the center console when these things randomly matter.

PaaK success varies across phones. What phone and operating system are you using?

I had a 2021 MME and PAAK was super unreliable back then. I don't think I would ever trust Ford to get that right so I will always use a key fob.

yeah - it shouldn't since its a bluetooth connection, but speaking from experience while in low cell & switching between wifi/cell - it doesn't work & forces me to use keypad.

I have an android phone. I find that if I make sure my phone is awake while approaching the car it works well. If I forget to, I just need to touch the power button on the phone to wake it up and Phone as a key works. Walk away lock update did not provide me with walk away lock.

I never use PaaK.

Yesterday, I had to dash out to pay my property taxes. As I left town hall, I realized I hadn't brought my wallet. Then, I realized I hadn't brought my fob. I was really missed that PaaK had worked...

The only time I have used the key and not my iPhone is when dropping off at dealer. Otherwise 100% iPhone. Never had a problem. Sometimes randomly it does not unlock the car but a quick unlock on the app always works. I love that feature.

When it doesn't work, all you really have to do is pull out your phone and open the FordPass app. PaaK works often enough that this isn't a big deal for me and this work around is better than carrying the FOB. Compared to Tesla (which ALWAYS worked) it definitely sucks. No need to resort to hauling the FOB around though.

Sometimes it seems like I need to open the app for the magic to happen. I think that every time the app gets updated it has to be reopened for PaaK to behave. I have Android fwiw.
