Hey all

Tried to use pro power today for the first time in about 6 months, and I got a service required message, see image.

Saw another thread where people said to disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 10 mins, so I'm trying that now but in case that doesn't work has anybody else had any experience with this?

Alright, update is that the 12v battery reset did NOT work.

The full breakdown is this... After the 12 volt reset Pro Power did turn back on, and all appeared normal, I could turn on the drunk outlets and waited a few mins to see if they errored out before the load. All seemed well.

But then when I went up to the frunk to actually plug in the device, it audibly clicked off and the indicator light next to the outlets was flashing, and then on the screen inside the truck I got the error message again.

The click likely the GFCI breaker opening cutting off power.

Possibly an actual ground fault between the outlet and the DC-AC circuitry that is detected when current flows and there are two paths for the neutral return current, one on the neutral and one on the ground.

So to my thinking it's a wiring issue somewhere. [Assuming the device you plugged in isn't the cause of the ground fault.]

If you still have warranty coverage, let Ford service find the problem.

The 12v reset just cleared the fault detection could not didn't fix the underlying problem.

What the? How did that even happen? A rock hit it just right?
No idea. I bought it used. I checked the frunk outlets at the dealer prior to purchase, but never the bed ones until I got home (250 miles away). Excitement leads to shortsightedness! They helped take care of it and got a new harness and entire outlet box by reimbursing me and letting my local dealer handle the repair. I will say, to quote them “It was driven down a dirt road” and they were not kidding with all of the mud and rocks lodged in the underside. I have ripped a bunch of trim off to clean up the caked dirt. I need to remove more this summer as it is still crying dirt lol

Update 2:

- I thought it was just an overload situation maybe as well, but the error code returned after the 12v reset, when I tried to just turn on pro power without any load plugged in. The PP service required still came back.

- after reading some replies here, I crawled under the bed of the truck to find the wiring harness mentioned as a fix in other threads. Mine was just dangling down, directly in the path of wheel spray and dirt. I disconnected them both and A LOT of dirt fell out of them, but the connectors were still in good shape. Knocked them clean, and reconnected. Will need to do something to tuck these up and protect them. I drive a lot of winter mtn roads so those must have been absolutely blasted with rocks and water for the last 5 months.

- after the wiring harness thing, I tried turning pro power back on. It worked.

So I tried a 500w load from the cab....all good. Turned on the bed and frunk outlets and tried the 500w load there...all good.

Then I tried one of my airbag fans from the frunk (1400w running 2300 peak), and it worked!

So....thanks for replies everyone. I don't think it was just the GFCI overload, since the 12v reset didn't do anything and I still got the Service Required afterwards and PP wouldn't even turn on.

I will still get my dealer to inspect it at my next service interval which is probably about 2 months away, if it stays working until then. It'll get its own appointment if it acts up again, as I use pro power a lot in spring and summer.

Looking at the photos in post 6, some of the under bed wiring was intentionally cut. Hard to say why the damage was done, but it wasn’t from rodents chewing on the wiring or the result of road debris.

Adding that to my list of wiring under the truck that has been damaged.

Might consider adding some protection so it doesn't happen again!

Interesting.

The mud/dirt must have interfered with the neutral connection so the return current did not match the outgoing current and caused the GFCI to trip.

I remember at least one other post about a similar issue with the connector - one poster had a spray in bed liner put it and the installer had disconnected the PPOB connector and forgotten to plug it back in.

And one owner had some wires chewed by some critter.

The same "Service Required" message appeared in those cases.

Those cut wires are a mystery - clearly not the PPOB power, maybe 12v lighting in the bed or a connection to a trailer harness? I guess the dealership fixed that too?

Always something...
