offering a good, better, and best model is and has been standard marketing practice with every product from baby food to automobiles. if you can't get what you want, get your $100 back.
Not so fast. Focusing almost exclusively on the price of the lowest trim in your advertising, but only selling a token few for a very short time at this price, and then only selling at almost double that price? That is the textbook definition of bait and switch. Video and LFD 81 are correct.

Don't really agree. They stated it from the start that it was limited quantities. It was well known you may not get a specific trim/price when ordering and there was never a guarantee you would.

this video pretty much sums up how reservation holders such as myself are getting screwed
How was he able to sell his reservation for $3k as he claimed? Smells like a lot of BS here.

I disagree...if you read the fine print the "reservation" for which you paid reserves a place in line.. not a particular trim or truck. Nothing was guaranteed or implied. Going back to the playbook that was released before the conversion Ford let everyone know they were going to make mostly Lariat trim and fewer PRO trim.

It was pretty much out in the open.

In advertising nearly every ad says "starting at $XXXX". Its common and should be expected...

You can quote dictionaries all you want, but that isn't what happened here. They did, in fact, sell the Pro model to some. They stated, from the start, that they may not be available when your time to order came. That is not a bait and switch.

See items#1 and #4 of the reservation terms and conditions.(https://www.ford.com/help/terms/reservations-payments-orders/)

  1. Reservation.
You may be able to configure a Ford vehicle (the “Vehicle”) through the Reservation Process (“Reservation”). By completing the Reservation Process, you are not ordering or purchasing a vehicle. The Reservation Process allows you to configure a Vehicle and pay the Reservation Deposit (“Reservation Deposit”) to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer (collectively “Dealer”) you select. Participation in the Program does not guarantee you vehicle delivery. You must contact a Dealer to discuss final transaction pricing, arrange any necessary financing, and complete your purchase of the Vehicle. Your Reservation does not guarantee a set price for the Vehicle. The Dealer sets the Vehicle price, which may differ from the MSRP. Unless otherwise indicated, MSRP is the manufacturer suggested retail price and does not include destination/delivery fee plus government fees and taxes, any finance charges, any dealer processing charge, any electronic filing charge, and any emission testing charge. Optional equipment not included.

  2. Sharing of Reservation Information.
You will be required to select a dealer at the time of Reservation. Your information including name, address, e-mail address and vehicle configuration will be shared with the dealer you select. You will be asked to reconfirm this dealer at time of order or select a different dealer.

  3. Reservation Process.
In order to complete the Reservation Process, you will be required to (1) create and/or login to your Ford account, (2) submit certain information to Ford, and (3) pay a refundable Reservation Deposit to your preferred Dealer. You may request a full refund of your Reservation Deposit at any time prior to placing a vehicle order with your selected Dealer. Contact your Dealer for details.

  4. Vehicle Specifications and Configuration
You understand that we may not have completed the development of the Vehicle or begun manufacturing the Vehicle at the time of your Reservation. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent and warrant to us that you understand that the Vehicle configuration may change prior to execution of a sales agreement between you and a Dealer.

I mean, there's also the complicating factor that even when you "ordered" a truck, you didn't really order it. The dealer ordered it, was invoiced for it, and then sold it to you. The reservation was just to get placed onto a list with a dealer, not to actually order direct from Ford. Ford isn't legally ALLOWED to sell to you directly, so they can't bait and switch you.

Very interesting! None of this was mentioned during the presentation….or any of Ford’s follow up press releases, right?!

And how do most entries in the dictionary gain their validity? By the vast majority of English speakers agreeing that x really means x. I’d therefore challenge you to step out into the general public with a neutral description of the way Ford handled this process—-and be shocked, shocked to see how many people would indeed agree with it being a BS, um, B&S.

That's why you always read before you agree to anything.

The majority of people when they find out what the reality of the situation is, feel slighted and mislead when that was never the actual case. They needed to do more research, read just a little bit of the information that was provided, they would know that this wasn't the case at all.

Thank you for agreeing with me that a majority of people would call Ford’s behavior here a bait and switch. As explained earlier, this would mean that it actually was one: Words have the meaning that most people agree they have.

Absolutely! And these caveats were already tossed around by some of the senior forum members when I joined here shortly after the reveal. Would have still been much appreciated if Ford had taken a bit more of a long term view re onboarding new customers vs short term profits.

That's not what I said at all. I said the majority of people that feel slighted. Just because people feel that doesn't make it reality.

If you feel so strongly about it, sue Ford for damages as a result of the bait and switch that you proclaim.
