That’s interesting. I hooked up FDRS at one point when I had mine installed and it never showed any indication that it knew what shifter module was installed or that it changed. I even ran diag on it without any weird reports.

Thanks for the reply. I am learning about CANbus communication in my day job. My comments stemmed from some recent learning about how modules claim addresses and interact on the bus. I still have a lot to learn there.

In the days since I have gotten the DTC one more time. But it has gone away. I was reading about the ICE F-150 shifter problems and it seems like it could be from shifting too fast from park to drive after startup. I will try to replicate it.

a few coats of sandable primer, then matte black paint, then matte clear with plenty of sanding along the way.

Which brand/paint codes did you use? It looks good and I think I am going to do this as well.

Typically a manufacturer will share DBC's for every vehicle on the same platform (Module and software wise). So it isn't super likely that the shifter would be using different messages/message ID's as long as it is from the same platform. It would also more than likely cause faults all the time if the messages aren't what the other modules are expecting. It would be possible that it's not sending a message or sending a message in a different format under certain situations that the other modules expect/don't expect. Likely what causes the door/parking brake message some get with shifters that work otherwise.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you on this. I got my products at the good ol home depot and assuming you can get the same products where you are, I've attached an image of the exact products I used below. I sanded with some fine grit sandpaper between coats to smoothe the finish.

Jumping into this mod friends - and question with motorized vs non-motorized. Previous car to my '24 Flash was a '21 Mach-E with rotary shifter, non-motorized. I actually liked it because I could give it a long "crank" to the right and it would stop at D and I can keep spinning all day to the right and it just sat in D. Same for spinning to the left, it'll eventually stop in P no matter how long I spin.

The Question - for those of you with NON-motorized - I'd expect the behaviour to be the same. But all the talk here about motorized shifters makes me wonder if I keep spinning this thing - say to the right - is it going to stop at D or keep cycling through all the drive modes?

I can't answer for all, but my non-motorized e-transit shifter stops at D/P respectively, no matter how much you keep spinning.

Got a new part number for the list. PZ1P-7P156-ED.
It was plug and play, and came out of a '22 Bronco Sport.
It has a blue ring around the base of the dial.
It is not motorized and electrically shifts back to P when you open the door in D.
"L" button activates N hold.
It will not rotate unless you push the brake.
It will rotate past D and P, but doesn't do anything.

I am looking at buying this PN shifter but in one of the pictures it has a tag that says "NO AMBIENT". Did yours also have that on it?

EDIT: The gentleman making the complete rotary shifters I noted below has moved from FB chaos to an Etsy store of his own. Prices went up a little - expected I guess, but still seems pretty reasonable for everything including a brand new motorized shifter. I went ahead and ordered one and will report back. FWIW I ordered the one with a "cubby" rather than having a 3rd cupholder.

I too bought a lj9z7p155d from ford in March of 2025 in anticipation of my OEM GSM going bad some time. it went bad this week. I installed the lj9z7p155d and it immediately pulled two DTC related to the GSM and ABS. Can’t clear the codes either.

Numerous people have had issues with the Mach-E shifter to the point where you probably should avoid it and go for Bronco Sport, Escape or E-Transit.

Yes. I bought it in March of 2025-in anticipation of my OEM GSM failure (this week). . I learned today it was recalled.

I'm officially ordering one directly from a Ford dealership, and the specific part number is already on the verified list thanks to @T3Fan . I think getting a brand new OEM one is totally worth the peace of mind, given I own a nearly $100k truck lol.
