I am seeking information from Lightning owners that also own or have owned a Mustang Mach E.

Most likely going to purchase a used one, anything to avoid?

Any must haves? Or nice to haves?

If ride comfort is important to you, look at either a GT with Magneride, or a later model - I think 25 and 26 have improved ride, maybe 24.
Other than feeling every bump in the road, I really like mine.

I had a 2022 and now have a 2025. Both ER Premium's. The 2022 was fine, but the ventilated seats in the 2025 are a game changer.

I would avoid a 2021 or a very early 2022 model. They had problems with the HVBJB (High Voltage Battery Junction Box).

I had a 2022 and now have a 2025. Both ER Premium's. The 2022 was fine, but the ventilated seats in the 2025 are a game changer.

Good point about the HVBJB. Our 2021 SR Select (cheapest model) recently had its box replaced under warranty to fix that known problem, and a neighbor had his Premium's box replaced before any problems occurred with it. So if you can find one of the older cars which has had a new HVBJB installed recently, it's probably OK.

@Maquis has a good point about the Mach-E suspension; ours has a much firmer ride than the Lightning, which we like for a car but some people's posteriors might not prefer.

I can only imagine how nice ventilated seats must be for those living in places that often get hot...which seems to be more and more places every year...

July 2021 SR MME, July 2023, Lightning Lariat
We have a ‘21 Select that’s been trouble free and currently has 62,000 miles. My S.O. loves it as it’s a perfect town & city rig, my sister bought a ‘25 and loves it too. I will say it takes 4 occupants to smooth the ride out.

2022 F-150 Lightning, 2023(J1) Mach-E GT-PE, '24 Bronco HLE 2Dr
I have both a Lightning and a MME. It's my second MME in fact. I traded my '21 Prem Ext in for a '23 GT PE. I love both of these vehicles equally. I take trips in the Lightning and the MME is for around town...only because I just didn't want to deal with more frequent charging than I have to really, no other reason.

I use the Unbridle drive mode in the MME because I like a bit more regen but not as much as 1PD. The car is stupid-fast, and I like the GT PE seats better than the GT version. The GT PE with Magneride is also a plus. The ride is firm but not jarring or choppy.

As for HVJB replacements...my '23 J1 model came with the latest iteration of the HVJB and it's been trouble-free. In fact the HVJB shouldn't be an issue for anybody since 99% of them should have already been replaced by now with the latest version. Assuming all the recalls have been done.

Personally I would look for a '23 Job 1 car (made before May of '23) and I'd go for a GT PE. But a '23 GT PE made later would be fine as well, in fact the price would likely be lower since it didn't originally come with a 3yr BC subscription like the J1 cars did.

My dealer couldn't sell two of the three stock '23 GTs Ford sent them. It took two years for one of them to get sold. The other two the dealership bought and titled and the sales manager and the top salesman drive them daily as their company cars. But they both love the cars...they just couldn't sell them in our market.

We used to have both. 23 MachE has since been turned in due to the lease ending. Nothing to complain about. Never changed tires in nearly 40k miles! I would get a newer one with a heat pump, if I was looking now.

The trade off for having a heat pump is the much smaller frunk.

I have a 24 Premium to go along with my 24 Flash Lightning . The wife drives the Mach E more than I do, but we both love the comfort and driving it is very enjoyable. I suggest the premium or higher because I found the interiors to be way more comfortable, although the cloth in the select isn't bad either. The Mach E has been very reliable, no issues in 2 years, I feel like it charges very fast, probably because I drive the Lightning, and everything is fine performance wise with our rear wheel drive version.
With the way prices have fallen on a used Mach E, I would definitely look at a Premium model or higher, and make sure the recalls have been completed (by checking the Vin in Carfax) and look at the tire condition, those can be expensive.

Both my kids have Premium ER Mach E’s. One Awd and one Rwd both are real nice cruisers the charging is slow but the 0-80 on a supercharger is about the same as our ER Lariat.

We have a 22 MME er (premium rear wheel drive) at 78k miles and a 23 Lightning er at 57k miles. The Mustang has been flawless. I would recommend a rear wheel drive. Power is perfect and it has a little better range than an AWD. At 78k miles the only expense has been a new set of tires at 65k miles. No matter how good the deal, do not get a standard range. You will regret it.

I had a 2023 MME Cal Rt 1 that I traded after one year for the 2024 Lightning. The Lightning is definitely smoother riding than the MME, but the MME isn't obnoxious.

We just traded our last ICE, my wife's Highlander for a '23 MME Premium. Makes me realize how much I missed the first Mach-e.

Our stable now consists of the Lightning, MME, and a 2020 Bolt. It's like your kids, you might have a favorite depending on what day it is, but you still love all of them.

My wife drives a 2023 Mach-E GT Performance Edition. If ride and handling are important, go for the trims that are equipped with the MagneRide active suspension: 2021-2023 GT Performance Edition, 2024-present Mach-E GT, and 2024-present Mach-E Rally Edition. Other than that, Ford added a heat pump in the 2025 model year, and made the frunk an extra cost option (no big loss) in the 2026 model year.

We were looking to buy one but after they pulled the plug on the Lightning, we said screw Ford. We just bought a 2026 Toyota AWD BZ early last month. We love it!
