I drove a minivan for years. You can't beat it if you have a bunch of kids. And I could pull out the seats and lay full 4x8 sheets of plywood in the back. :)

The Ioniq5 has a decent rear seat. The EV6 is actually a little larger in the rear seating too but smaller trunk.

When the Ford EXPLORER and the Kia TELLURIDE come out in EV versions, you'll see a much quicker adoption from the 'ladies' in the U.S... maybe that's next.

the third row in the model X is tiny as mentioned, and I can't believe anyone over 6 will fit in the third row of the model Y. I'm considering a model Y myself, since we need a car to carry 5 people and a large dog or two, but the large EV SUV market just isn't there yet. I hope that Volvo does a full electric XC90, and the lightning will eventually morph into an EV expedition but that's still a few years away. 6-7 years ago I was shopping for a SUV for the family and had it narrowed down to the model X, the XC90, and the GL350. The only one that was available when i needed it was the GL, and I've loved the diesel economy, but not the current prices. It's $1.50 higher than gas right now for diesel in CA.

I sold my Nissan Leaf, the 60mile 2015 version... I'm starting to regret it already : /

You're looking at this all wrong. You let her take your Lightning and you get...

.... wait for it....

.... Another Lightning!

The math does itself.

Or get her an MME.

My vote is for ex90

Concur, especially if it is a recent build from this Summer with the current software loaded. The early builds were a challenge (I had one), but my replacement EX90 has been very well behaved.

The only EV SUV comparable to the X7 size wise and 3rd Row functional is the cadillac escalade EV. It is a boat and expensive though! I have myself a X7 and might keep it a little bit longer before switching to a 3rd Row EV SUV.Although with one kid in college and another leaving soon I've been eyeing at a downsize with the iX M60. But then the new X3 EV announced for next year made me rethink my strategy.

I’m sure that after 3-1/2 years, this guy is still trying to decide on what to buy and appreciates the new information. 🙄
2 of them probably out of the child seat as well, lol. 😁

but not for reason you would expect, have a may build week.

between kid #3 coming soon, current gas prices, her irrational aversion to fill up her own gas and always waiting for me to do it - my wife is now convinced that she needs a large ev that can take 3 car seats in a row, comfortably.

she keeps joking and dropping hints she wants my lightning. but i'm sure many of you married guys can attest, we all know where this is going.

what can i offer up to keep her hands off lightning? is tesla model y the only real option for large ev available now? she's in an x7 now.
As someone who’s had an X (and S) I wouldn’t recommend them for 3 across, much less a Y.

As someone who’s had a R1T I would recommend an X before the R1S with 3 across, simply because it’s easier to access without the need to duck and avoid smacking your kids head into the ceiling.

As someone with a Lightning, I highly recommend it for the space. You can fit 3 across easily, heck you can climb back there and feed them. BUT, unfortunately IIHS just released their ratings and the Lightning didn’t fair too well. Not as much of a concern with kids in car seats (it failed due to shifting of seat belts) as the car seats have their own belts, but may be later om.

As someone who also has an EV9, I highly recommend that as a general family car. Plenty of space, low to the ground makes it easy access for kids, good safety ratings, plenty of cargo room for a double stroller plus bags with the 3rd row down, quick charging for when you’re on the road. Plus the 3rd row is actually usable. My 6’ tall nephew climbs back there and is comfortable for an hour ride.
