Some Tesla superchargers showing "station not compatible" in FordPass -- cannot see at in Tesla app.

Here around Kansas City, I would say 50% or more Tesla superchargers are this way. Yes, I have told the Tesla app that I have a NACS to CCS1 adaptor.

When I click on the stations in question in the FordPass app, it goes from "station not compatible" to showing merely "not recommended".

Sadly for me, several of the Tesla superchargers that would allow me/my family to drive the Lightning to and from western KS are not showing up.

I have searched for what this means, to no avail. Anyone know more? For instance, I need to charge in St Joseph Missouri. That set of stations would allow a US-36 route. But not showing as compatible in my Ford Pass acct.

Many older Tesla Superchargers are known as "Version 2" or v. 2. They only charge at 150 kW and cannot communicate with CCS vehicles. Others are 250 kW v3 Superchargers. They can communicate with CCS vehicles, but some are not available yet. The most reliable way I know of to find CCS compatible Superchargers is using the Tesla web site using the "Compatible With NACS" button. Unfortunately, for you, for now, it appears that the only ones are along I-70.

This is sad to hear. CCS seems dead, as manufacturers abandon it for NACS, but the fabulous Tesla network appears far less fabulous today. All this turmoil about a standard plug will just slow roll out of charging stations. Having an adaptor (or 2) will help, but wow -- no one warned about how many Tesla superchargers are still not available. In my instance, all the ones that matter.........

Another round about route for me to get to western KS is via Salina KS. Those are no good as well, even on I-70. As it stands, the route goes through Manhatten KS, where there are 2 CCS Superchargers, both putzing along at 60kw/h Both at Ford/Chebby dealers respectively.

Wait, what?! why wouldn't you get recalls done as close to home as possible? Why would your family consider the EV decision an error? what if you moved hundreds of miles away? Would you still get the truck serviced at the original dealer? Sounds crazy.

There is an EA in Topeka and an EVConnect in Maple Hill that are good options. Manhattan has a DCFC but it's limited to ~70 kW. Further west there are good DCFC options at Abilene (EVConnect in addition to Tesla), Salina (EA), Russell(Tesla, from above), Hays (EA), Oakley (Tesla), Colby (EA).

I-35 from KC to Omaha is tough sledding. And nowhere on Hwy 36 that I'm aware of is any good. Where are you ending up?

I had difficulty charging with the Vortex Lectron adapter. It turned out that due to the short power cable on the supercharger I was putting some lateral strain on the truck receptical. I pulled parallal into a SC taking up several spaces when no other vehicles were around and plugged in with plenty of slack in the cable. Truck charged perfectly at about 150KW.

This is definitely an issue (with all DCFC for that matter). Too much lateral pull makes for poor connections.

Yep. I used an EVGo at a Flying J a couple weeks ago and had the issue. Brand new station with pretty stiff cables and the way I parked left a little lateral tension. Started charging fine but faulted a couple minutes in. Went back out and reworked it to put less stress and it charged fine.

Just part of the fun I guess. I treat it like a car I had once where if the gas nozzle wasn't seated just right it would trip the shutoff.

North of Gaylord KS, south of 36, west of Smith Center. Smith County KS, home to Lebanon KS, Geographic center of the lower 48. And not much else except cows, corn, wheat (and a lot of whitetails)......

Problem is that Abilene or Salina adds 40 miles or so. Shortest routes are either over St Joseph, via 36, or over Manhattan KS, then snaking up through the Smokey Hills on US-24. Going from KC to Smith Co is complicated since at Lawrence, Topeka and Maple Hill you still have too much battery to quick charge in a useful manner. In Manhattan, you are finally down to 50 % or so, so you can charge, BUT chargers are slow. There is a rumor, I heard from someone, that the Chevy dealer might be faster. Dunno.

The Hays, Russel stuff is even less handy. There is a Ford dealer in Beloit KS that also has a QC built, but its always blocked with several Mustang Mach-e's. I think they installed it under duress and do NOT want non-local traffic.

I have an old farm house in rural Smith Co, south of Kensington which gets used for hunting. We have a 40A J1772 there, and I've been contemplating AirB&Bing it, specificaly for BEV drivers that want to traverse KS in some fashion other than via I-70. US-24 and US-36 are actually much more interesting (beautiful and picturesque would be pushing it too far) than I-70.

I believe you can see more chargers on your map if you change the “minimum” acceptable charging level on your screen. I have a local Target that has probably 20 - 70kw chargers. I don’t see the site on my map so I am going to try to find that setting again and drop the minimum to 30. Happy Travels

It really is lol, my daughter starts at USM in Hattiesburg in fall, I'm in Huntsville so last good charger is Tuscaloosa. Yes there are some slow ones, but this stretch is pretty iffy.

There is 2 DC fast in Hattiesburg and in Laurel, ms there is one at the kia/ford its free as of now and its 150 kWh charger
