I got one of the first gen adapters and never had an issue. Now twice I have had no luck. Plug in, lights turn blue, no pulse. App says “starting charger”, truck says “charging” in the charging app on board bit it does not. Tried other chargers and two separate stations. Tonight I moved over to an adjacent Chargepoint and it worked like a charm.

I’m thinking maybe something is wrong with the adapter? Thoughts?

There was a recall on some of the 1st gen adapters. You may want to reach out to Ford to check first.

Did you also try a station with a magic dock? That would help narrow down if it’s an adapter issue or if it’s a station/software issue

I remember others had problems with the Tesla-made adapter if it wasn't completely plugged into the charge cord. Some stated it took an unexpected amount of force to couple it properly.

With the original Tesla adapter, the written instructions advised to
- 1st insert the Tesla cord, then

- wait some seconds (don't remember exactly but it was something like 15+ seconds), and

- only then insert the assembly into the car's charging port.

Maybe this info'll help the OP's case.

What is your location? I imagine someone would be willing to meet up for swap test.

I’ve been using it for over a year so I don’t think it’s process oriented.

I’m assuming the Supercharger you were at is one that is open to non-Teslas?

I've jumped on two Tesla chargers that were not open to non Tesls. Both gave me a "charger fault" rather than simply not charging. Those open to non Tesla are likely the majority but 2 of the 3 near me are Tesla only.

Were those showing up as a possible charging location on the Ford app? Or did you just see them and give them a try without thinking they might be v2?

I had a similar problem about a year ago.
It had been a very hot day and my adapter was hot (from being inside a hot car that was in the sun).
Just a thought.

I posted my story a couple of months back that LECTRON adapter failed me at Tesla Supercharger.... I have been using now a Ford issued one with no problems... So my thinking is that these adapters just fail for some reason.. Now I always have 2 with me unfortunately...

The Ford app was correct. I just jumped on that one because I was using AA and needed a charge later than the Ford app was suggesting. I seem to switch between Ford and AA. The two nearest me are also correct on the Ford app as Tesla only.

Update: first off these are stations I have charged at many times successfully with the adapter. On the suggestion of @Yellow Buddy, I stopped yesterday a station with magic dock, which by the way, looks exactly like our apapters minus the release mechanism. It worked which pretty much confirms that there’s a failure with the adapter. I spent the rest of my drive on the phone with Ford Support, and they are now sending me a new one on warranty.

Thanks everyone.

I believe that they will send you the new modified Lectron version.

I had one of the 1st gen Ford Adapters that were recalled. In the mean time I ordered an A2Z while waiting for Ford to replace the recalled version. The 1st A2Z failed after 5 minutes every time. A2Z replaced it under warranty and the new one works fine.

Finally ford sent me a new modified Lectron version which i haven't tired yet. But I now have 2 adapters in case one doesn't work.
