Correct. https://www.tesla.com/findus Just select Other EV and it will filter those that have a magic dock. Only a small percentage of the overall supercharger count actually has them enabled but looks like there are quite a few in Texas. This shows a v3 with the magic dock from a couple years ago so now you don't have to unlock the adapter in the app but gives you the idea of what it looks like. The only way I've found to determine locations with the v4 stalls and longer cords is supercharge.info and filtering by v4.

I have the updated version of the A2Z adapter. At least that is what I was told. How do I know if it is the case?
Let's review: There was the original A2Z Typhoon adapter; its compatibility with V4 dispensers is unknown to me. Then, about this time last year (June/July 2024), A2Z released its Typhoon Pro - its most recognizable feature was the single-button release for both the CCS and NACS plugs. The earliest production Typhoon Pro adapters had the short comm pin problem (only on V4 dispensers - works fine on V3). I received mine in August or September, and it did not work on V4 dispensers. I contacted A2Z (I think it was in November - I hadn't used a V4 dispenser until then) and they immediately shipped me a new adapter, which has worked fine on all Tesla dispensers that are provisioned for 3rd-party brands. Great customer service!

I've scanned through the other comments here; most are focused on whether a particular Tesla site is 3rd party compatible. I don't think that the major problem in your case; neither is the sequence in which you plug. I believe it may be your adapter, based on the behavior you have reported. Very similar to my case.

Additional side note: Oddly, not all V4 (or to be precise, V3.5 sites, since the power cabinets have not been upgraded) sites are 3rd party compatible (example: Baker, CA, has a large number of V4 dispensers, but is Tesla-only). Not sure why.

Do I need to have a specific update to be able to charge at new V4 tesla superchargers? Twice it didn't work for me at different locations.
- 1st one was in Austin TX
- 2nd one was today at the Buccees in Texas City south of Houston.

In both cases the error message i get is there is a station fault! No matter what i do, change station it does not work at all. When i use ford pass to activate the station the app shows that it is activated but the truck does not get charged. What am I missing here?
I have only used one V4 Supercharger so far. I drove up, plugged in and charging started. Just like all of the other Tesla Superchargers I have used with the Ford adapter. When I first got the truck i tried charging at a V3 using an aftermarket adapter. I had to navigate to the Tesla charger in the Ford app and tell it which charger I was using for it to activate.

Oh this problem is so big for me. I believe I finally have success last week. While I think I have the tesla app working I really wanted to get plug and charge working. Finally. The support line told me that plug and charge was broken. use the screen in the truck select the charging station and pick the charger and start charging. It worked for me. For me, historically the FP app is worthless. as a side note. I have plug and charge fully disabled in the app and It still works seamlessly at Electrify America stations. For me, I have a serious negative bias by my charging experiences. From what I read I am a bit of a outlier with these experiences.

Yea, I think you are. From my experience, I have used Plug & Charge at a couple Tesla V3 chargers, and I have used the Tesla app at both V3 and V4 chargers (in order to get the Tesla subscription price). The only time I have had an issue was the first attempt when I discovered that I needed to plug the A2Z adapter into my truck first and then plug the NACS cable into the adapter. Note, some people report needing to do the opposite plug in order.
Same with EA - activate with the EA app to get the pass+ pricing and plug it in.

One of the Tesla v3 stations on I-95 in Connecticut that has been listed as open to non-Tesla, is now restricted. Plugshare comments from a person who used the station in January successfully, but not in June. Other reports of it not working as well.

Tesla doesn't enable V3/V3.5 superchargers for third-parties if they are in high-demand locations. It may be that they determined they couldn't satisfy Tesla demand in that area and removed access for third-parties.

OP:

It took only a minute to check Plugshare and see that others are successfully charging their non-Tesla vehicles including Lightnings at Bucee's in Texas City as recently as 3 days ago.... so ignore the speculation that it is Tesla only

Several said that it was a Magic dock site... I would definitely use the Magic dock and not your adapter if you try it again at that location.

I would also get the Tesla app and set up an account. You don't have to sign up for membership, you just pay the normal price. I've had Plug and charge work at some Tesla (and regular CCS) sites and not work at others. I've even had PnC work one time and not the next at one Tesla site. Just use the Tesla app. Its easy and I've never had it fail at a Tesla site.

I do believe my issue was that I didn't use the magic dock. I had checked plugshare reviews and could see other non tesla EVs being successful. I just was not aware of the magic dock. Next time I'll be in the area I sure will give it a new try.

Great. Also, which V4 SC site in the Austin area didn't work for you? I'm right up the road in Waco and will check it out next time I'm down there.

Used a v4 in White Plains, NY. Decent overall, but the MagicDock on the dispenser we got was broken. The Hyundai before us used his own adapter, and we found out why. Fortunately, we had our A2Z adapter with us, and it worked just fine. Used another V4 in Holyoke, MA that didn't have MagicDock, but again worked fine with our adapter.
