I have both a 2023 Lariate with 20 Inch OEM wheels and tires and a new 2025 Platinum with 22 inch wheels and Michelin Defender 22" tires. I swapped out the tires on the 22 Lariat with the Platinum tires and noticed a decrease in range of approximately 15-20%. At 90% charge on the 25 Platinum I noticed the range to be approximately 285.
2023 Lariat with OEM wheels and tires (20") was normally 320 at 90% it is now 290 at 90%. Reading up on the effect of weight at each tire I should have expected this to happen. Has anyone come across a set of 22" wheels and corresponding tires that are light enough and LT (light truck) rated that approximate the 20" tire range?

The GOM is not a reliable indication of range. Drive both on a controlled route under identical conditions and compare the MPK.

And yes, the EPA range on a Platinum is slightly lower, generally attributed to the tires/wheels.

Not sure what the offset on those wheels are, if they protrude much more than OEM, but I notice a 5-10% drop in efficiency when going from OEM Lariat to OEM (non-aero) 22s and my 22s are Heavy!, like 75-80lbs.

So I think you're looking at other things than just weight with your setup.

Will a non LT tire be acceptable for the weight of a Lightning?

Absolutely nothing can be said about the tires or wheel if using the GOM as the measuring device.

Bottom line, you cannot compare using that number on the dash.

I can't comment on wheels because I kept my OEM wheels, but I replaced the grabbers with these Toyo Open Country AT3 EV tires and haven't noticed a measurable difference in range compared to the stock tires. Tirerack link. It's nice that they also look way better than the grabber tires.

The stock tires are not LT rated so I'd say so. Every tire is different though so look at the actual weight ratings and compare to the OEM tires before slapping a set on. I went with a set of goodyear electric drive AT's in a 275/65r20 (non LT) and have been very happy with them.

are you comparing the range on both vehicles and scratching your head?

There is another thread here somewhere about how the earlier trucks have a different version of the GOM software from the newer ones, so you might be having a problem right there. The numbers won't ever be apples to apples between the 22 and the 25 in my understanding, everything else being equal.

the OEM 22" Platinum wheels are very heavy. do you know how much those gold aftermarket wheels you have there weigh? They look cool but what do they weigh? is the OEM 22" setup and the aftermarket 22" setup the same weight?

For road cars, reducing weight is one of the most effective ways to improve efficiency, as every extra 55 pounds (25kg) can increase fuel consumption by roughly 1%. Weight ranks above the #2 most important factor, aerodynamics.

The only way to cut unsprung weight without compromising wheel strength is by going with a forged aluminum wheel, and at 22" it gets expensive. I suspect the 20" is the sweet spot between looks/weight/efficiency but I won't be able to measure it until later in the summer.

I gather that they are the same size as the original 275/60R20?
That's the tire I'm looking at except I will likely go at least a little larger in diameter.

I know the tires are 53 lbs each approx 14 lbs heavier than the MOM'S. I assume the gold wheels are roughly 10 lbs heavier. So Im ~25lbs per corner heavier or 100 lbs overall. Im site this accounts for a noticeable reduction in range.
Going forward, Ill either get another set of wheels/tires that are #1 more aerodynamic #2 lighter. Since I only have 5,000 miles on the '25 I'll for sure end up getting a road trip set of rolling tires/wheels and sell these to an F-150 enthusiast.

Yes, I put on the same size as stock. 275/60R20.
