I was having the moonroof rattling issue just 6 months into my new Lightning Lariat and found a quick and surprisingly effective fix in the ICE F150 forums that pointed to this YouTube video. Works a charm and costs $7 (AMZ) and 10 minutes time - including cleanup.

Maybe this came along at the right time - I've made an order on Amazon and will give this a shot. Mine has been rattling bad - back above the passenger side rear seat. I'd come to the conclusion that it was the shade cover though. If I open and close it again, the rattle stops for a bit. It always comes back though. I still need to open it up and inspect back there to make sure nothing is loose, but I'll give this a try too.

Mine sounds like it's rubbing... I may try the seal renewal as shown in the video, but with a more appropriate tool than a folding knife. lol

As a mechanic (disclaimer: I suck with cars but great with planes 🙃)I would highly advise against this. The rubber seal conditioner is a temporary fix that can make the condition worse. I suggest performing this TSB with Krytox twice a year as, arguably, the only preventative maintenance item the truck really needs.

Krytox is a stable product that resists UV degradation, moisture intrusion and volatility. It is a low friction lubricant under temperature extremes which reduces sticking behavior. It isn’t tacky so it wont attract and retain debris. Its designed specifically for this application: to maintain its composure as a sealing lubricant in a high load environment.

On the other hand, that fluid isnt stable once it leaves the can. It provides too little friction, leaving the sunroof seal “slippery” allowing micromovement between the seal and sunroof cutout. This will definitely lead to more noise. Along with that, it will attract debris, which is the leading cause of sunroof motor failures- premature wear. Its pretty much useless a week down the road.

I was waiting for someone to point out the impact on the rubber seal with the other treatment method.

Thanks for reminding us of a TSB on this issue, Krytox Grease
