I think it’s been discussed here before and seems like it has to do with software reading a roadside sign that is not a speed limit sign. Like an exit sign or weight limit sign, etc.

Mine does it even with no signs of any kind in view. The system also uses a database for speed limit data. There were locations in my town where it would inexplicably drop to 20 in a 30 and show 70 in a 35. It was 100% repeatable and eventually got rectified.

I’d also mention that even with “Speed limit assist” turned off, you can still see the errors on the display.

Yes, it's definitely a mix of a database and actual sign recognition. There is a section of Highway 41 that is clearly marked 45, but the database overrides that to 55 several times when speed sign recognition is turned on. There is another section in front of our technical college where Val-Tech Road parallels Interstate 75 and it thinks the road's speed limit is 70 instead of 45.

Always remember these are "assistive" features. I've learned the areas I drive most commonly and know when to disable cruise control. I'm especially cautious in areas I'm unfamiliar with.

I do leave speed sign recognition on as I had rather driver slower in case _I_ miss a speed limit sign. If the truck speeds up I assess the situation and manually change speeds accordingly. I use Car Play with Apple Maps which also has speeds listed and will usually default to the lower reported speed if there is a mismatch unless I absolutely know otherwise.

Mine does this on specific roads - notably Corridor H which is also known as WV 48/55. The speed limit is 65, and there are many 48/55 signs along the 20 mile stretch I frequently drive, but one sign in particular it always misreads as a speed limit sign, causing the brakes to slam to drop me from 73 (+8 cruise tolerance) down to 63. It also does this when I’m on I-66 (express lanes are 70, regular lanes are 55) even in the express lanes, the truck will sometimes slam on the brakes, picking up a 55 sign here and there.

@Ford Motor Company really does need to focus on this and develop a solution or solutions.

I also live in Portland and have found a stretch of Broadway where the system occasionally thinks the speed limit is 80. Near a gas station, so their sign might be leading to confusion.
I also find that it reads the speed signs on side roads which here are 20 mph, and so the truck will want to slow down.
I enjoy using the ACC, and like how the speed limit correction works on the highway, but there are still serious issues when on city streets. It would be great if there was a way to set preferences for city streets vs highway. But for now I have the automatic speed adjustment turned off.

I do the same. I have never had it fail as far as I know because if the truck accelerates, I watch it like a hawk. My '23 Powerboost was the same though occasionally it would see a speed limit sign on a parallel or crossing road and slow. Even that was very seldome. I didn't like it at first and wish the offset was in percent rather than absolute but now I like, even depend on it. As I get used to the automation and nannies I like them all. Admittedly that may have something to do with how many times I've rounded the sun.

I had this happen yesterday! I was cruising with Blue Cruise going and my truck would randomly accelerate to 80 miles an hour! It happened 5 times. No signs on the road I was on interstate 16 in Georgia . I also had sync freeze and not allow me to cancel route planning.
