On our 5,300 mile trip out west, we drove back through Wyoming, and it was snowing. They treat the roads with a mixture of sand and gravel. Well, just washed my truck yesterday and I am missing chunks of the front bumper. Not tiny chips, but sizeable chunks. It's white underneath, so it really is noticeable. Had my 2013 F-150 for 10 years with the chrome bumper, and it looked great when I sold it. This already looks awful. Will post pics at some point.

That’s not great. I assume it’s a plastic bumper cover that got dinged up?

I’d prefer a chipped bumper cover to rusting chrome, though. I’ve seen more than a few older F150s with rusted out chrome bumpers, and they look awful. Touch-up paint is cheap.

This is 100% believable. First day I took mine to work, someone dinged my driver side passenger door enough to chip the paint but it didn't leave a dent. Also has the white showing where the paint is gone now.

Ive had the same issue with close to 9K on my truck. When on blue cruise, I just leave the following distance at the furthest possible setting to avoid this.

This why I always opt for a lighter color and was really annoyed they had painted bumpers... I used to have red/blue and then switched to white for many years and was going to get a white F150L. However as part of the conditions of me getting this F150L my wife said it had to be a different color. Overall I am happy with my choice... I still wish I had white though

Why don't the auto makers make the primer color match the actual vehicle color or at least close so you don't see rock chips? We have been making cars for over 100 years and can't figure this out?
(except the Cybertruck maybe. Lol)

Does anyone know about the rock chop sticker/vinyl type material that goes on bumpers, around fenders, leading edges of hood, etc. I've seen trucks with it installed (looks OEM) and it matches the paint perfectly. The only way I can see it matching so good is if it's sold by the OEM or sold an put on by the Dealer. It would be awesome to be able to buy it in aftermarket pieces and apply it when stuff like this happens or even over dents in the body panels. You could float a dent with glazing putty then apply this rock chip vinyl and it would be better than a dent at least. It's essentially the same as wrap material but matches the paint color and sheen.... I think?

I think you are talking about clear protective wrap. Should be done before rock chips. A trick I use for these is to use a toothpick with a little oem touch up paint to fill in chips vs the way to big brush.

While I've only had ceramic coating on my F150s I'm certainly tempted for PPF. - Paint Protection Film.

Due to some of the rules that have changed in an attempt to make the waste from paint facilities less chemical dangerous and harmful to life, the paint formulas now used on modern cars tends to be a little less resistant to stone chips in my experience.
