After having to RMA my first FCSP due to it faulting as soon as it would be plugged in to charge, my new one shows an error in my FordPass that it is overheating while charging during the night. Is anyone else see this? I am in AZ where it reached 120 yesterday. I charge in a closed garage. Is it just too damn hot to charge?

Make sure you have the latest FW update. If you do, then yes I am also having issues. I had to dial it back to 60 amps last month. Last night (hit 108 on the weather station at my house) I still had it give me an error near the end of charging (around 9pm). I'm going to change the charge time back to early morning (usually only need 1.5-2hrs to top up). It's still warm in the garage (truck said 92 when I turned it on and it was 78 outside) but better than late evening.

It’s rated for up to 60C (140F). Has your FCSP been updated to the latest software? There are a couple threads showing what the current version is.

I have the latest firmware 2.112.77:2.135:1.18:0.39:0.48. I also have mine dialed down to 60 amps, by the installer, as they think having it at 80 may have been what killed my first one. I charge between 11:00pm and 5:00am, as my power company has super cheap rates for EVs during that time. I got the overheating messages at 1:02am, 1:33am, 2:06am, 2:38am, 3:12am. It finished charging at 4:42am

Good to know you're up to date, you can dial down the charging rate in the Connected Charge station tile, on the FordPass app, try lowering it to 40 amp while it's this hot possibly minimizing the charging pauses due to overheating.

mine overheated yesterday, 90°. First time in since getting original firmware update last summer. I’ve charged on hotter/high humidity days starting at lower SOC and not had it happen.
That is a very good point, that I have not thought of. The charge cord is super long, so I have not been uncoiling it the whole way. I will try that to soo if it makes any difference. Good call out.

My FCSP was replaced & the new one has never had an output as high as the replaced unit. The new one has maxed at at around 67 amps when the setting was at 80 amps. It's overheated a number of times & I've set it in the app to 64 amps & I haven't had an error since. I always charge over night & it's been hot but nothing compared to the AZ temps. I'm running the latest Firmware. I do have an extra coil around the charger so I may try charging at a higher rate without the coil wrapped around the charger.

Yeah, heat will cause a slow down or fault. Across multiple EVs and chargers I found 95 to be the hottest I would start charging without having to place an intervention - a household fan over the charger was the cheapest solve, along with venting heat out of garage with a bathroom fan.

Prior to that I had to delay charging until 4am to let ambient heat drop down in summer months.

One thing I noticed, when the electricians installed it, they "dialed down" the max current setting switch from 7 to 6. Setting it to 6, would be 64amps; which may explain why that is all you were getting. I wonder, if the setting on the FCSP is set to max at 64 amps, but your FordPass is set to 80amps, would that cause overheating? Might also be my issue

Very good point. My charger is on the right wall and I'm not confident I won't run into something backing in so I do the cable dance every evening/morning. It was nice coming home to 16% SoC at 7pm and I had 85% well before I had to leave for work. Seeing as I won't be traveling for a while I think I'll dial back to 40 and reduce the stress on the equipment.

I checked my charger when they installed the replacement & it's set to 7 / 80 amps. I've always kept it on 7 for both chargers & only adjust it by the Ford app.

The hardware setting is a max limit and can not be exceeded regardless of the software setting.

I just installed my FCSPro yesterday. I live in the mountains, high of 85 degrees F yesterday. The first time I used the charger it faulted due to overheating 4 times. I don't think it's ambient temperature. Apparently the 80 amp charger can't handle 80 amps. I'm going to turn it down as others have done.
