I've been considering a version of my quick dock that mounts to the dash. Since the Lightnings can't get a built right dash grid, I'll see if I can make something that would mount to the screen. Hopefully my machE screen is close enough to test with. It will take a week or two for me to work it up. Send me a DM if you are interested in discussing.
I can stop by in my Lightning iF necessary... :)

happily retired!
A Comma question, can I setup my 2023 Mach-e premium and 2022 lariat lightning with connectors and take one Comma unit to either vehicle?

You could probably do it with a couple of quick mounts, but I would guess you would need to recalibrate every time your changed it out.

Yes. I move mine between F150/MachE/Escape all the time. I designed a 3D printable docking solution you can use to make it even easier (files are free to download or I make and sell them for those with no printer).

I also have a new, much nicer, dock that should be ready in about 2 weeks that I'll be selling.

So, I've finally had the chance to install my Comma 3x and I'm getting the "Faulty Cable" error. I'm using the sliding dock mount and I've narrowed it down to these three parts:

90º Adapter: I don't get the error when plugging the long OBD-C cable into the right angle adapter in the dock but I also don't get any bus signals to the Comma (it is powered though).

180º Adapter: When bypassing the dock and plugging the long cable into the 180º adapter and running through the short extension it throws the cable error.

Short Extension: I'm not able to test the short extension without the 180º adapter because I don't have another female-to-female adapter handy.

When plugging the long cable directly into the 3x I receive no errors and reach the calibration screen. Also, I'm using a DIY breakout board located at the IPMA with 360 ohm resistor. All parts are from links specified here:

Any thoughts?

Had mine do this today for the first time. Reseated everything and luckily all was well so guess it just wasn't getting good connection when I reattached the comma.

I've gotten a bad batch of the 180 degree couplers from amazon recently. They should have been a pair, did you try the other coupler?

Thanks, I was hoping you’d be able to help narrow it down based on experience. I haven’t tried the other one yet but will do so and report back.

Have you had any issues with the 90? Seems odd I wouldn’t get the errors using that upstream but also don’t get signal.

Out of over 100 I've installed, I've had one bad 90-degree adapter. The 180-degree adapter is much more common to fail, and about 4 of the last 10 have been bad. My new dock is explicitly designed to eliminate that 180 and hide the short cable so it isn't in a place where it gets touched a lot. Because I handle my comma so much during development, I have worn out 3 of those short cables.

Would mounting is lower make it act more like it was in a Mach E? I have heard it said before the traffic light / stop sign recognition suffers from it being so high, while the models are in normal sized cars.

In theory, yes. I suppose I will find out soon as I develop this dash mount.
