Well, you can't install a VPN on the comma, and he said his networking skills were weak, so I doubt he can set one up on his router. I'm not sure what happens when you fire up a VPN app on your phone and then hotspot, but it could be worth a try.

This might explain my situation. Home internet is straight T-Mobile router. I use a VPN on my T-Mobile phone. Comma download worked when tethered to phone hotspot. I'm in a fairly rural area, so it's likely that my home internet and phone are both on the same T-Mobile tower. VPN on the phone might be the difference.

EDIT:
I have had the same issue a couple of different times now where the phone tethering allows the download but the home internet will not. It's all starting to make sense now.

Most of the time, home internet does work though.

What am I missing? It seems like you just had a bad cable.

It still doesn’t work, a different cable stopped the errors of the truck, then the comma got an error.

you definitely have a bad canbus component somewhere, and the resistors are not going to help.

Weak but better then the average person. My router allows me to run a VPN. Your cell idea would be easy. I have Nord installed on my phone. If this issue comes up again. I will try these suggestions and let every one know the results. Thanks again for all the hand holding. It is greatly appreciated!

harness 1 —> comma long obdc cable —> lightning adapter—> short thunderbolt 4 cable —> comma

harness 2 w/ same setup

Harness 1 w/ Long obdc —> lightning adapter —> long obdc cable 2 —> comma

harness 2 w same set up

harness 1 with usb 4.0 —> lightning —> usb 4.0 comma

what am I doing wrong?

(have pulled fuse 32 several times to reset/make sure)

I believe thats a Thunderbolt cable, which is the same form factor as USB-C.. and should be compatible, but perhaps that's the problem?

CAN Bus Disconnected: Likely Faulty Cable means exactly that, we have a problem with the USB cables. Let's look at your configs below:

This should work, so one of these cables or the adapter must be bad.

This will not work for sure. Two long ODBC cables is a problem (known from experience)

Cruise Fault: Restart car is a different message, this means the Ford Radar has an error code in it. Usually this happens during hard rain, but it is possible the comma did something to cause it to fault.

I have never heard of USB 4.0, that must be new, and I'm not sure how it will work with comma.

follow this article, start with just the short USBC cable that comma includes (there should be no errors and no need for the coupler when using the short cable). Come back here with any questions.

Ahh, yes. Thunderbolt 4 is not USB 4.
