Does that mean if this part has a design flaw, it has not been fixed? In other words, if they fixed it, would it have a different part number in 25 than it did in 23?

I have an appointment in a week. After it is done, I will post the results to confirm what he problem was.

I'm not aware of any revisions to the design/build/materials from the original part, but they will alter the PN if they do. Those which have failed might be 1 in a million defects and the vast majority of gears are suitable for long life service ..... OR NOT.....

Has anyone have had coolant diverted valve replaced but didn’t have clicking sound coming out of it. I don’t hear any clicks and my shifter acts OK too. What else can it be?

There have been a few reports of the valve being replaced, but I don't recall if they heard clicking, hopefully they find this thread and comment about what lead up to the replacement.

Update: Truck is in the shop and they said they are replacing the coolant diverting valve. This is after I told them that is what I suspect. I just hope it is a conclusion they came up on their own because unlike others, I never heard any noise coming from the valve.

The other tidbit is that when they were working on it, I got a message on Ford pass “Pro Power Onboard service needed”. Is this something I need to worry about or them updating software or disconnecting 12V battery could cause that message?

I got the exact same message when they were manually applying a software patch when the mobile rep was working on my truck in my driveway.

Yes, Everything is working fine after the fault was gone.

I had my coolant valve replaced a few months ago. It started giving me issues right before I moved across the country. I had no problems fast charging or driving the roughly 2,500 miles I needed to go. I didn’t notice any sounds or clicking. My dealer diagnosed it, ordered the part while I kept my truck, and it took a few hours for them to replace it (it was their first ever replacement).

Not a huge deal in my opinion but also not great that it failed within 35,000 miles. In comparable years of ownership I have had more trips to the dealer for my Lightning than my previous Ranger. Still like the truck but there are certainly some weak spots.

Running this part number with model year 2025 Lightning selected, shows that it's a part which fits it as well.

I had to go looking to find the other thread on this diverter valve - seemed that the Heat Pump equiped truck didn't use it.

In the 22-23 trucks there are two valves, I think the 24+ trucks have only one, it's buried down deep near the AC compressor. The heat pump trucks still need to manage coolant flow going to the traction battery through the chiller or the heat exchanger or even the PTC which I think is still on HP trucks but it's only used in extreme cold conditions to boost heating to the battery pack when needed.

what do you mean by ”started giving me issues”? HVAC issues? Or your battery wouldn’t warm up in cold weather?…..

Your dealer seems to have it together. I dropped off mine last Wednesday. The confirmed that it was the valve and got the part on Thursday but said they had to do a bunch of software updates. Then they said working on the coolant may take some time and couldn’t finish it by end of Friday. Sounded like they would be done by end of Monday but I didn’t hear anything today either. Service advisor is a tool. Could not get me a loaner and really bad at communication. I am not sure if they misdiagnosed, screwed up something or have other priorities. I had a lot of modules behind so I don’t mind if they are spending time updating any of those that may be required for this fix.

I get you on dealer visits. I judge my ownership experience by how often I have to visit the dealer. The ones close to me have bad reviews so I drive 30 miles to go to this one which makes it more of a pain without the loaner.

I google different cities around the world every once in a while to see which is most accommodating for a car free type of life. A bicycle (not even an e-bike) is an ultimate form of transportation I dream of but never have the courage to switch to.
