Wow! That Kia did about the same damage to a Lightning than a General Grabber tire blowout did to my wife's Lightning two years ago...

I believe the font is called Sarcastica. 😜 At least, that is my vote for its name if someone were to create it.

In the above damage from a tire blowout, the plastic trim piece tore the aluminum body panel where one of its mounting screws was and bent it where the other is. A body shop quoted two to three grand, citing the panel would need replacing.

A little rebending followed by some resin and fiberglass reinforcement fixed it for about $30 and an hour of my time. My work wasn't the neatest, but that plastic trim piece covers it completely.

I was just thinking that after I posted. Fortunately, my wife is off work this week, so I could take a pic (don't tell her I did without washing the dirt off first!).

Even though Lightning’s mass alone would destroy the Kia in a head on collision and does play some part here, the extent of damage to Kia is partly due to shape of the contact points and hight difference. Kia’s aerodynamic low front vs Lightning boxy rear made Kia slide under and take most of the damage.

I love to know the repair cost for Lightning though. $2K ahead for tail light being untouched.

I’ve been worried about door dings…

Today an uninsured motorist did this to my 24 Flash. When the cop saw my truck he said “Wow - built Ford tough.”
Man, sure doesnt look like much damage, but I'd be worried about the wheel/hub and rear motor. Looks like they glanced off the bumper and probably hit the tire. Could be some damage in there that cant be seen. (hopefully not)

I got an estimate today. Bed side replacement and bumper replacement for $5,900. You're correct - the tail light is in tact.

There was no contact with the Lightning's rear passenger wheel. That mudflap has a little scratch from the collision. I think the steel bumper took most of the impact force. From a driver seat perspective, it felt like a mild push.

I guess that is not too bad these days but I paid less to buy the truck my Lightning replaced. It was a used Frontier that I drove for more than a decade for minimal maintenance cost and it was 20 years old still running when I sold it. I miss those days.

but that(and my) 20-yr old truck didn't silently preheat in a few minutes on a schedule you set with your phone, 0-60 in 4 seconds, run silently, while never needing oil changes/exhaust work/diff & transfer case fluids/ smelly expensive fuel - I don't miss those days at all...lol

Wow, that's impressive! Hopefully the repairs to your truck won't be too bad.

It's got four wheels - Waiting on my '22 Lightning
You know, I have jokingly stated several times that having that big steel bumper across the back actually means something.

Given the crap front ends on most vehicles, like this sacrificial Kia, are just easily mangled, I might actually have to take this to heart a bit more.

A few months back, I had a minor accident with my lightning. My front hit someone at 5mph. No airbags deployed On truck.

I hit them on their back drivers side. Their car, totaled and airbags deployed.

No injuries.

My car just had cosmetic damage. The hood had no damage.

Cost for cosmetic and sensor damage, $12k.

Ouch!
